What, if anything, are the polls telling us about Americans' appetite for greater economic cooperation across North America or about the domestic priorities that could shape the, uh, region's economic agenda?

Oh, that's a great question.

Um, so let me just start with the domestic piece of this first.

Uh, first of all, uh, our economic confidence index is at one of the lowest levels we've recorded in a while.

Um, people who watch American politics know that the, the party in power tends to do poor in the midterms, especially when economic conditions are challenging.

Um, we see this not just across the country as a whole, but even if you look among Republicans specifically, since August of last year, so about a year f-- uh, prior to this, there's been a fifty-point drop in their economic confidence ratings.

So that's really troubling for, I think, a lot of Republicans that are running right now, especially when we see that at the, the state and local level, the issues that are really salient with voters aren't necessarily the same issues that you see the national government, the executive branch talking about.
