dan i'm really interested to see what you think because maybe you have a bit of a bigger sample size as an editor

Dan CoxonGUEST
Yeah, I mean, first up, I wouldn't want to disagree too heavily with Stephen Graham-Jones because he's a very smart man and Stephen's also bigger than me.

Dan CoxonGUEST
But I think what, at least for me, what his quote's getting to is the way that the house can be kind of passive and defensive or it can be kind of aggressive and attacking the owners.

Dan CoxonGUEST
So I wouldn't say that those are two boxes that you could put all stories into, but I do think there's probably a spectrum that most haunted house stories will fit somewhere on that spectrum.

Dan CoxonGUEST
What I do find really interesting, and it kind of harks back a bit to what Chris said at the beginning, is that I kind of feel that because it has such a long history, the haunted house story, that what we're starting to see, well, I guess it's probably going on all the way through, but we're starting to see it as a generation, is is that it's kind of starting to reflect the changing relationship that people have with the buildings they live in and we had a very specific discussion when we were on the tour for Unquiet Guest about how in the UK and particularly around London because the event was in London that people can't afford to buy houses in London anymore so more and more people are renting and it's fundamentally changed the relationship people have with the buildings that they live in they are very temporary dwellings sometimes they're only ever intending to be there for a year or two and i found that really interesting partly because i've also uh without going into too much detail because i can't but i've been reading submissions for a publisher recently and that's something i'd seen coming through in the submissions of haunted house um novel submissions as well was that um that these stories of people about people as renters coming into a house that was haunted um I think you get a magnification of what I think it was Grace was saying earlier of this thing about living on kind of lots of layers of different people who've been there previously.
