There were a number of experiments that were done under the Discovery Science Program looking at equation of state of materials with a velocity interferometer, looking at the state of materials using what we refer to as the TARDIS or in situ X-ray diagnostic, and looking at temperature and density conditions by Thompson scattering.

Each of those has interest in a wide variety of configurations and conditions and has been used for many programmatic experiments as well.
