One thing that we got when we talked to Martha Hickson was that she was not gonna put up with the bullshit.

She understands what is important, and I get it.

If your belief is that books aren't important or education isn't important or thought isn't important-

Yeah.

But if you actually think stuff like that matters, you fight for it, and it doesn't matter how manly, how tough, how, you know.

I guess about seven or eight years ago I went to my first NASCAR race live.

Well, the only one I've been to live, 'cause I was invited as a guest.

And no lie, the first five minutes, epic.

Then it was like, okay, I'm sitting there twiddling my thumbs for like an hour.

And then it's down to like the last 10 laps and they start racing hard again, and I'm like, "Okay." And then it got interesting.

Mm-hmm.

Did anybody else find it curious as to, like, from watching it years ago up till now, how prior to this point Cole and Rowdy, like, hated each other's guts, but then he shows up at his place-

If you had to summarize as simply as possible what you're bringing to them in that moment, what is it?

It's, it's a good question.

It's a hard question because as I've explained, I will be the least knowledgeable person in any room I'm in.

Uh, I'm...

And, and partly it's because I'm in rooms, on calls, in meetings, in boardrooms with people who are phenomenally experienced, capable, educated, credentialed, leading scientists, engineers, MBAs, lawyers, CEOs, board chairs, tremendously accomplished people, and they have a world of advisors around them.

They don't lack for counsel, in-house counsel on the communications front, marketing, legal, outside advisors, business consultants.

So what do I bring? I don't have any of those credentials.

Speaking of why it is people trust you, you do radiate a kind of calm and, uh, there's something dispassionate about the way you see the world, and I'm imagining you're dealing with people who are often highly emotional.

Yeah.

Yeah.

So that was 11 years.

So, uh, I bought a, uh, I bought a gun to commemorate.

Usually I buy something, sometimes new, sometimes used, and, uh, this year I just happened to, uh, come into a 1958, uh, Ruger flat top three screw .44 Magnum that was well-worn, but, uh, very, very sh- uh, little shot.

You know, not, not, uh, not worn as far as, uh, internals, just well-worn on the finish.

Uh, so I went ahead and picked that up, and as I was signing the paperwork, you know, doing the paperwork on that, giving 'em my concealed carry and all that so I could pick it up, I looked behind the counter and there was a, uh, a pump action rifle back there.

He just likes it.

What about being in court and listening to the crown prosecutors and stuff saying that you've done this?

Yeah.

That was...

I think just, like, with what they've talked aboutThrough the week, it's more just like bringing up, um, moments of, of like, yeah, like obviously like, um, yeah, like the, the certain moments that have, that they think that like tapping towards [beep] you know, that's really upsetting.

But even like the, you know, like the births of [beep] yeah, I think just when, yeah, baby was born, um, that was a really, that was a really weird day or tough day 'cause kind of went from like this happy as, um, moment to then like, um, [beep] um, you know, hemorrhaging.

And so that was quite, um, that was quite sad when I heard, um, heard it being said again in, um, in court.

The second plea offer, yeah

Yeah.

And so there's, there's actually six people that got, uh, nominated and, and selected for this award.

Uh, one couple, uh, I believe the, the, the gentleman made a newspaper that has been circulating around Mill Woods for years and years.

And then his wife is, is an advocate and, and just kind of, uh, active in the community.

Uh, and then there's Evan, the little guy there, uh, he is a, a musician, and he just comes around and plays, I believe, I, I wanna say it's a violin.

Uh, might have been a cello though.

Hey, chat.

I'm Dan, and the last time you saw me, I was traveling around the world in 80 days, and that was pretty fun, but I've decided to settle down and embrace my agricultural roots.

Um, and I've had some success at growing things in my garden, pumpkins, cucumbers, and a few other things.

But as I mentioned in round four, my thumbs are a very uncreative color.

Uh, they're at very green at the moment, and that's okay because that's never stopped me before.

Also, my goth glitter tonight is yellow, which happens to be my favorite.

Last but not least is Farmer Dan.

... it's like to be a horticulturalist.

That's, that's something I'm really passionate a- about as well.

So perhaps wearing a different hat to, to my, my work and retrain as a gardener scheme hat is, you know, horticulture is what it is.

It's, it's incredibly rewarding and, and I love it.

It, it's been my lifelong passion, but it can be challenging at times.

It is a tough job.

Often, it, it's a low-paid industry famously, and I think it's incumbent upon us to, to shout about the, the training scheme and tell people how brilliant it is, but also to have that sort of, um, seam of honesty and just say like, "Look, it's not gonna work for everybody, and you need to think about that, and you really need to consider that hard before you approach something like this." One of the other things I'm really passionate about is volunteering.

I wonder how much of what you're doing is actually a combination of these soft skills, but also kind of allowing people to believe that they belong at the potting bench.

Mm

... to raise funds and, and, um, that's how the sort of bug started for growing and selling plants.

And then over time, just kept growing more and more.

Started selling neighbor, started selling at a farm shop.

And we've got family friends who used to have a nursery, and they did all the flower shows, and we used to go and visit family who were helping them.

So we've been, I've visited quite a lot of flower shows-

Right.

Um, and I commissioned my old school art teacher to do that for me, and that is a, a watercolor painting, an im- impressionistic watercolor painting of the crate with a few old terracotta pots in a bit of a landscape.

but being so impassioned about it.

And it was something that impacted me in my, uh, mid-20s because I had failed both in my job, uh, on a task, a particular task, and at church.

I was trying to start a men's group.

And so several failures happened all at once, mainly due to my overexuberance and lack of attention to detail and probably not listening to advice.

Wow.

I don't, I've never seen a car like that.

Uh, one of the things in the dash, in the dash display, it was the first car that I know of that had, if you would open, it's a four-door sedan, if you'd open the right rear door, a little LED indicator would show the right rear door being open.

All other cars at that time, if they had anything, they would just, like the dome light would go on, or it'd have like door ajar would be in your instrument cluster, but it would not show you the actual door.

And this, this 1980 car had a little diagram, like a top plan view of the car, and if you opened all four doors, four little door icons would, would light up on the little diagram, and there were a few other things that would light up on the diagram to sort of indicate what was going on with the car.

I thought that was so futuristic at the time.

... for Subaru.

Well, so even, even the, the, the UTEC was, but the Unit Chip was like a piggyback, so you basically...

[laughs]

I don't think I have viewed that movie.

I'm gonna go with the saxophone.

Wow, that's fast.

If, if you lived on Neptune, every day was windy, you'd probably have to like, walk on the ground 'cause the wind would be too strong for you to walk straight up.

Dan, what do you think? Is Jack Bostock the, the real deal with what we've seen from him two weeks in?

I don't know.

I think both those ti- uh, Dolphins games have been very right dominant.

We've seen that in reflecting with Herbie's scores over the last two weeks as well.

They're not going left as much, and he's obviously the right, right edge there, and, and Esauko's doing wonders on the outside of him.

So look, I think that base plus power is high.

I don't think he'll average 50 for the year.

Like, if those guys go out and he starts, is it worth the one-week hold?

The only thing I have in mind is American Ninja Warrior, guys, but, I mean, that's not really a game show.

... it's the, the top of it is big enough, obviously, to fit in a normal AR mag well, but the bottom of it is almost like a 10/22 mag.

So there's a pretty big, uh, difference.
