Therese VirtueGUEST
But one of the things we have really noticed is how exciting it is for people who've settled here from other countries to hear someone singing in their own language and to hear the music that maybe they've grown up with, to be able to dance to some of the music that has always been part of their cultural life.

Dale PackardGUEST
And I'd probably add to that that one of the ways you can, uh, build social cohesion and establish a respectful culture in a country is by sharing stories amongst the people who live there and sharing that through song and music.

Dale PackardGUEST
And music is, uh, special because it's a common language that anyone can share and experience, um, without having to learn the, the mother tongue of, of that l- of that country.

Dale PackardGUEST
Um, so it's, it's quite special and unique in that way, and bringing people together for a shared experience of music has a kind of healing property of its own, I think.

I was wondering if there's a story or a moment from, you know, a choir or a program that you've b- witnessed, I'm sure there's thousands of them, that you could see where being a part of the BWAT has positively impacted someone that you could share with us.

Dale PackardGUEST
For me, one of the reasons I wanted to join the BWAT is I've got, you know, very fond memories of, of s- sitting on the floor at the Mark Street Hall in Fitzroy where we've been, uh, where we program in- into regularly, and this feeling of dissolving the boundary between the audience and the performer, where you're, you're not in this stuffy environment where you're receiving the, the performance in a, in some kind of one directional way.
