I feel like I read that you did move to Nashville and live in Nashville for a little bit, right?
12:09
I moved here three different times.
12:10
Really? Which just sounds like I'm either delusional or a quitter, but there were good reasons for each of the moves.
12:18
So the first time I would have been 16, 17.
12:21
I... through a crazy series of events i grew up playing western swing music cool and so it was like a bob wills and the texas playboys cover band essentially and our first show ever was at kane's ballroom and we were opening for a sleep at the wheel and the texas playboys and the surviving members of bob's band and uh that was like where i got bit with the bug of live music it's like this is what this is it um so just grew up for the next five years toured with this band we we played we got to play the Kennedy Center we we opened for Roy Clark and the Oak Ridge Boys like got to just cool stuff that my music now would never have opened those type of doors so really cool uh experiences as a kid and um it led me to this place where I like had all these western swing songs in my back pocket I don't They're not really useful in most scenarios, but Willie Nelson came to town, and I ended up close enough to hold the sign up and essentially get up on stage and sing a Western Swing song, a Bob Wills song with Willie.
13:30
And after the show that night, he gave me a few minutes of his time, and I was just like...
13:36
I need any piece of advice you got.
17:33
picked, but it was cool to be able
66:47
That worked
66:47
...
66:47
it, it, it worked, and we got, we, I proposed, and 89 days later we got married.
66:52
And 90, uh, after our, uh- After our honeymoon, we took a week.
66:57
As soon as we got back from our honeymoon, we loaded up U-Haul and moved back to Nashville, and, uh, ended up signing a publishing deal, um, with Warner Chappell, and had a, had a job that I could- Mm ... you know, support with.
67:11
And- Yeah ... and then when I lost that, that was the last move back to Texas- Mm-hmm ... and I've been there ever since.
67:16
And, uh, yeah, it's, it's kind of been...
72:07
[laughs]
12:48
Mm.
12:49
You know, you gotta have X amount of streams for X amount of months, and then it, it, you know, it hits all these benchmarks, and then it gets to go to radio, and then you hope it performs well.
12:59
And, and we were just like, sometimes you just have to trust what you're feeling when you hear a song for the first time.
13:09
And we heard this for the first time after Coe hopped on it, and Coe and I both felt the same way.
13:15
We were like, "We gotta put this out." And, and not only that, but, like, three days later, after the song came out, three days later it went to radio.
13:23
So no data.
13:24
We had no idea how it would do.

20 MINS LATER

33:30
[laughs]
18:14
Yeah.
18:14
Um, so I was 16 years old.
18:17
We gotta preface this by the reason that I love Willie Nelson's music is 'cause my grandfather, um, who a couple months ago passed away, he was, like...
18:26
He was my person.
18:27
Uh, so this story is, like, is really fun for me to think of, 'cause it's one of my favorite memories with, with him.
18:34
So I-My uncle buys my grandfather tickets, like really good seats, like third or fourth row seats, to Willie Nelson, and I think Willie's in his late 70s at this point.
18:44
I'm 16 years old.

16 MINS LATER

34:50
So when you say "Wild As Her" came out, what do you mean? Like, you just put it up on streaming and then it popped? Or-
23:24
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
23:24
You know what I mean? Uh, but anyways, I was like, "You're right." So 16-year-old kid, I don't have any money.
23:29
Uh, tickets are expensive, so I was like, "Well, I'll just drive up there and I'll wait outside and, you know, get a ticket from, from somebody scalping tickets." And that's what I did.
23:39
I waited till about 10 minutes after the show.
23:41
Um, I got a ticket from some guy who was just trying to make a buck off of 'em, and once the show starts, you can't really make any money off 'em, so I got a $10 ticket.
23:50
And I walked in, and at this point in my life, I, I, like, couldn't really enjoy a concert 'cause all I could think about is, like, "What would I do if I was up there? Would I be ready? What would I sing? Would I be ready for that moment?" And, uh, you know, obviously that's never happened, but I've gone to a lot of shows and I've had that same feeling, and this night just felt a little different.
24:12
And, uh, so I'm up in the nosebleeds with a $10 ticket, and I walked over to, uh, this sweet lady at the concession stand and I was like, "This is gonna sound super odd, but do you have any, like, cardboard or anything?" And so she walked to the trash, she pulled out a piece of cardboard and handed it to me, and she's like, "What do you want this for?" Uh, and I was likeOne other question.

14 MINS LATER

39:00
So when you say "Wild As Her" came out, what do you mean? Like, you just put it up on streaming and then it popped? Or-
