What's the earliest memory of him? Or what's your earliest understanding of who he was?

I think for me, I don't think there's one aha moment that I realized who he was in terms of his occupation or anything like that.

I think, again, that job was his life in a healthy way, but he loved it and he lived it every single day.

Some of my earliest memories of him, I think, will crystallize it for me.

I must have been about five or six.

And on the occasional Sunday, he would take me with him into Manhattan onto the FDNY fireboats, the Marine Division.

Because for a little while there, they would have these like Sunday afternoon boat tours on the actual fireboats themselves that would go up and down the Hudson and kind of taking the sights on a beautiful day, a beautiful spring or summer day.
