Can you compare the level of splash to like a moonlight to a parasitic can, a moonlight at Telluride? Does it compare to you at all to, you know, what we've seen kind of take over the season or jumpstart a season in the past? Or is it something different?
18:26
On a festival level, I'm like literally going through the years of Oscar Best Picture winners, and I'm trying to think of a movie that was dropped and people went like, it like turned the necks.
18:41
That's a weird way to say it, but like it made everyone go, oh wait, what's that? And then just be all about it.
18:48
Honestly, I can't, and I think the comp really is Million Dollar Baby.
18:52
Because it's not a festival comp.
18:55
It is a late, I mean, it so happened to drop at a festival, but it's a comp that we, like, you know, Aviator, right? Like, Aviator is, and Martin Scorsese, you know, Odyssey, and Christopher Nolan, like, that year you couldn't convince anyone that Marty wasn't about to win his Oscar, and it was just gonna be, like, great.
19:15
And he had an overdue narrative to go along with that.

5 MINS LATER

24:38
yeah
7:13
So why do you think Michael has the staying power?
7:15
Uh, because we've seen this episode before.
7:18
It was called Bohemian Rhapsody last time.
7:20
Um, a- and I just think we, we have the, quote-unquote, Oscar villain every season.
7:27
The minute I saw Michael, I was like, "My God, P- this is the movie that film Twitter is gonna hate.
7:32
They're gonna be so loud and obnoxious about it, and be like, 'This movie's the worst movie ever.'" A- and they'll point to the Rotten Tomatoes score.
7:38
Yes, it's a bad score.

23 MINS LATER

31:08
New York's, New York's got some good stuff this year.
21:36
They don't like the genre." 16 nominations, though, forced some people to reconsider their votes.
21:42
There are 24 categories.
21:43
They had to pass this movie 16 times.
22:24
[upbeat music] So if you're participating in an Oscar party pool, who should you pick to win on your ballot? Well, Clayton says there is one absolute lock.
22:34
Let's just look at the top six categories: picture, director, and the four acting.
22:38
Only one of those is take it to the bank, and that's Jesse Buckley and Best Actress for Hamnet.
9:59
The previous record for most noms for one movie, 14, had been held in a three-way tie by the 1950s film All About Eve, Titanic, and La La Land.
10:09
Aside from define genre expectations, this is a horror movie, a period piece.
10:16
It produced the most black artists from a single film nominated for an Oscar 10 across all categories.
10:24
It was just a love fest for a movie that came out last April.
10:54
And for Cinematography, Autumn Durald-Arquipa is the first woman of color ever nominated in the category.
11:00
I think looking at this now, we have an Academy that's open to new types of films, but I think more so really points the knee to original filmmaking.
11:11
We live in a very big IP-driven world, and yet Sinners, One Battle After Another, F1, Hamnet, you know, original films by really career-driven auteurs need an avenue to make their movies, and the Academy is recognizing that.
