Claire, can I turn to you? So is this, is this kind of interesting research from your point of view? Does this kind of help to inform the, uh, the Diabetes Research & Wellness Foundation's work?

It, it does, and I think in the first instance, and I know Zoe and yourselves will know this, but of course there are different types of diabetes.

So for someone with, uh, who would, would be diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes, um, if they don't, uh, adapt and make some changes, then it's gonna be really, really difficult for them because it's a lifetime's work, you know, dealing with your blood glucose levels and, uh, monitoring and administering your own insulin on a daily basis, which is a whole other thing to think about.

But for people with Type 2 diabetes who, and as Zoe just said, are often maybe over 60- So they're in the group that, that we're trying to help and support.

And, and quite often they're not the ones that might make any changes.

If they've got to over 60, they're r- they c- you know, we maybe see them, they're a bit stuck in their ways.

Interestingly, if it's a couple, husband and wife, quite often if we're at an event, you'll see the wife come towards us, and you say, "Oh, are you living with diabetes?" And she'll say, "No, but he is." And he's sort of hanging back at the back, sort of doesn't really want to talk about it.

Uh, given these findings, is there anything that the, the government or the NHS can be doing to help? Clare, do you wanna start with that?

The journey

... is because my mother, when she was six, she was born in Kiel, Germany, and her father was Jewish.

Her mother was not.

But he was very active in the Social Democratic Party.

This was just as Hitler was coming to power.

And so, you know, he was pushed out.

He was gonna lose his job.

What are your plans with it? Or when you blue sky what the possibilities are, does it change what retirement looks like or-
