What are we actually studying, um, about this world?
8:29
Sure.
8:30
Sure.
8:31
Well, it comes down to the fact that rocks behave the same anywhere in the universe, and this is actually the, this principle of geology that you're taught as an undergraduate geology students, where the whole reason why we can study Earth and the past is because we know that rocks are behaving the same way four billion years ago as they are today.
8:52
And I think it's the same with other rocky planets around other stars.
8:57
We know that mantles are conducting, so this is the solid rock that's making up most of the interior of the planet.
9:08
It's conducting just like a kettle on the stove because it's heated and it has to, um, become buoyant and rise.
