So I'm really interested in talking about carbohydrates because carbohydrates have had quite a bad rap, haven't they? In terms of, you know, people saying I'm no carbs or I can only eat carbs if I'm exercising, right? Can you explain what actually happens
17:31
inside the body when we eat carbohydrates? So, and you're absolutely right.
17:36
I think, you know, there is a balance here to be had.
17:40
And, you know, when we're talking about carbohydrates and sugar, I don't want people to get fearful of them at all.
17:48
And, you know, when we're talking about carbohydrates, we're also talking about fruit and vegetables, of course, as well.
17:52
So we're not just talking about, you know, your loaf of white bread.
17:56
Exactly.

And the
10:09
Yeah,
10:10
I think before that it's probably worth also mentioning that when people think about metabolic health and insulin resistance, they're often also then talking about weight gain.
10:21
but I would also change that focus a little bit to where is that weight gain or where is that fat stored because even when total body weight remains relatively stable what you find is post-menopausal women will tend to carry more proportionally visceral fat abdominal fat And I think there was one study that found postmenopausal women had 49% more intra-abdominal fat than premenopausal women, even after adjusting for age and body weight generally.
10:55
And the reason I'm mentioning that is that fat, the visceral fat, has greater metabolic consequences longer term as well.
11:03
You know, it can be inflammatory, for example.
11:06
So we can talk more about that, but don't get just fixated about your weight and the scale.
11:14
Think about where is that fat being distributed.

31:13
yeah.

So what are your members telling you or trying to tell the Northern Ireland government that they want to see happen?
10:01
Well, basically, at the start, people were sort of saying, you know, could they not just behave themselves? There was a thing called the Memorandum of Understanding, and it was signed by the Ulster Farmers Union, which I've actually been in touch with them quite a lot.
10:16
And they're, how would I phrase it? They're becoming more supportive now.
10:21
they're beginning to see the bigger picture and they're beginning to see the real picture of what the circumstances are.
10:29
They signed a memorandum of understanding with the Northern Ireland Master of the Hounds Association, which is Mr Bill Montgomery, and with Countryside Alliance Ireland, which is represented by Mr Gary McCartney.
10:42
Now, if you read the memorandum of understanding and if the memorandum of understanding was adhered to, There wouldn't be a problem.
10:50
Sorry, that's my phone.
13:18
So he was trying to confuse you and lie about who he
