Chris van Voorst van Beest - Bye Design
2:53
So, uh, f- fugue is a kind of writing, um, w- it's been around for ages.
3:01
I mean, and Bach is famous for it, for having the Well-Tempered Clavier where he wrote a fugue in, uh, every key, you know? Um, [clears throat] but it's basically where you have a melody statement which probably lasts, like, eight measures, and then that's a, that's just played by one voice, and then it meanders for a moment and a second voice joins, and it plays.
3:25
In that little meandering moment, it modulates to the key a fifth away.
3:30
So if your, if your first statement was in C minor, the next statement by the second voice, which happens after the first statement's played, um, would be in the key of G minor.
3:40
And then the third statement comes in, the third voice joins, or it could be the first voice stating it again, but it goes, the me- melody is restated in C minor.
