This is how you can address some of those broken things in our country.
13:04
Yeah, so it was at university where I sort of got into the political space, not because of any, I mean, that experience sort of was leading me down a path of giving.
13:16
So I joined what we called the RAG Committee, which was the university student body's charitable trust.
13:22
And so I joined that because of that experience.
13:25
Politics started because a lot of my friends were part of the COPE student movement.
13:30
And slowly they like wrote me in and I became part of the student council at university.
13:35
But I think the thing that made me realize that you can make a difference in a position of elected power.

What are you hopeful for in the Ngeni municipality? What are you hopeful for in South Africa? What are you hopeful for in this world?
6:24
Uh, is that still part of the whole strategy for the province or for the DA in the province?
6:32
Yeah, absolutely.
6:33
Um, you know, we, we are far from perfect.
6:35
It's been four and a half years, or four years and eight months, or whatever it is.
6:40
Um, so, so there's still a lot to do, but I think in that very short space of time, we've been able to show as the DA what, what a different sort of government looks like, uh, here in KZN.
6:49
We've had the IFP, we've had the ANC at various different levels and, and, and in different capacities.
6:54
Um, yet here's a DA-run municipality who has managed to do things in, in... that others haven't been able to do, um, very quickly.
3:13
But how are you reading it?
3:15
Yes, it's the third time, Alec.
3:17
The first time was when I relinquished my position at the provincial legislature to come back to local government.
3:24
But firstly, I think local government is where things happen.
3:29
With respect to my colleagues in high levels of government, it's a lot of policy, it's a lot of long-term vision, it's a lot of speeches.
3:36
Local government is where decisions actually impact people's lives.
3:41
And as a person who considers myself less of a politician and more of someone who likes to get things done as an administrator, I think this is where my skills are best utilized.

Below that, well, not so happy, but really looking forward to 2029, where your party would be looking to be north of 30% by your estimation.
