Was there any thought, though, that before the special session started that you would have problems with this once it went to court because they would actually look at that law that was just signed into law by Governor Moore?
47:31
Sure.
47:31
So the General Assembly has three sets of governing rules, right? We have the rules of the floor of the House of Delegates.
47:37
We have the state law, which is our statutes, and we have our Constitution, which is our governing body.
47:42
The most important document there – being the Constitution, because we can't bypass the Constitution as a legislative body without going to the residents of Maryland, going to the citizens of Maryland and asking for the permission to change our state constitution.
47:57
However, we consistently look at other things like our laws and our rules, and when we acknowledge on the floor and publicly that we are looking at this exact statute and or rule, and we are saying, okay, we are going to we are going to acknowledge and pass that rule or pass that law to pass this measure, we acknowledge that.
48:22
And that's exactly what we did here.

If the Maryland Supreme Court on Thursday decides to rule with the judges from Anne Arundel and Dorchester, what do you and Fight Back Maryland do next?
6:15
What is really making places break through all of that?
6:18
I think first places need to kind of diagnose, you know, where are they in the spectrum of performance versus perception? And a lot of our work at Resonance and the best cities rankings that we've created over the years has been designed to help diagnose that.
6:35
And I think there are cities that actually, as we find, have a perception that actually exceeds what the product deserves.
6:43
And that makes marketing a little bit easier in terms of understanding that, hey, we're well received.
6:49
We have a strong identity.
6:51
Now we can be cute.
6:52
We can be creative.

But how do we get successful collaborations between those groups as it relates to the shared narrative?
21:32
Are there other things DMOs should be looking at in addition to the tourism-related KPIs, and what are they?
21:39
Yeah, 100%.
21:40
I think we focus, the DMOs focus on visitor attraction, filling the hotels, meetings, conferences, events.
21:49
What they don't do a good job of is developing the actual experience.
21:54
So they tend to view themselves as the promoter of what are the experiences that exist today.
22:01
And if you have a good perception and a good product, maybe that is the only job.
22:05
But for a lot of destinations...
