In May 2025, the then Culture Minister, Chris Bryant, had a bizarre meeting with his French counterpart, Rashida Dati, on the French Riviera.

I speak French, so I started in French.

And I think she was a bit shocked that a British person spoke French.

Not just Kylie French, either.

So we did the whole meeting in French, and one of my key asks was, you know, will you let the Bayeux Tapestry come to the UK? And we weren't sure what her view was.

And then she suddenly said...

When President Macron shook hands over the deal with then Prime Minister Keir Starmer in London, Bryant recounted his anecdotes.

Do you believe the legislation needs to be amended so that it can command broader confidence behind it?

Yes, we've got to get it right.

You know, I sometimes worry that some people have misunderstood some of the purpose of the bill.

In the end, what's the bill about? It's about getting answers for families, all sorts of different kinds of families.

you know, from the nationalist and the loyalist community, from families who worked or who had loved ones who were killed in the RUC or as part of Operation Banner.

I mean, a whole series of different kind of communities that need those answers.

And yes, we will be introducing some amendments when we bring it back to the House of Commons.

Well, Ritzker asked the UK Trade Minister Chris Bryant about the country's trade relationship with the US and whether he's frustrated at the lack of progress so far.

So we got the best, um, steel and a- aluminum or aluminum, uh, deal of any o- any country in the world, so that's good.

But of course, yes, we'd like to be able to take those tariffs down to zero.

Um, and we've introduced our own steel, um, tariff measures in the last few weeks as well to try and make sure that we have a strong steel production, uh, sector in the UK.

Uh, and we've been in negotiations with the United States of America, and for that matter with the European Union, about whether there's a means of getting all of our tariffs down to zero mutually.

Um, we've...

We got a good deal on automotives, best deal of any country in the world, um, up to, uh, you know, just a 10% tariff u- up to, um, the quota, uh, and that's being exploited already.

Ritzker, though, also spoke to UK Trade Minister Chris Bryant about whether we can expect trade strategy to differ under Andy Burnham compared with Keir Starmer's approach.

How do you think your new leader is going to deal with that? If the first thing he has to say to him is, could you essentially fix this?

My guess is that Trump himself wants to fix it now because, you know, it's having a pretty dire effect not only on economic prosperity in the United States of America and on pump prices and so on, but also on the fortunes of political parties in the United States of America.

So I think everybody wants to sort it.

The question is whether there's the...

the will to make that happen.

And just about Andy, I remember when I started as trade minister back last September, one of my counterparts, actually the Saudi counterpart, said to me, my friend, likability is bankability.

And I think that there's a truth in that.

And I mean, one of the recurring things in the book, and I d- I don't know even whether you're aware of it, having written it, but you're constantly beating yourself up over not having done enough to help your mother, which I think is an entirely natural thing, but looking back now, do you, do you really think there's anything else you could've done?

I w- there are s- there are things I said to my mother, things I called her that I wished I, wish I hadn't.

Yeah, definitely.

Um, I mean, some things I did, even when I was trying to be helpful that were just plain stupid, I tell the story of, um, uh, you know, Mum and Dad split up, I had to split up the household furnishings, some going to Dad, some going to Mum, I don't know why Dad wasn't doing that really, but anyway, he wasn't around, I was doing it, um, and, um, Mum went to live in one flat, she ended up losing that 'cause she ran up a terrible debt at the, at the off-license, she ended up in a mobile home, and then I managed to buy a place for her in Glasgow which is where she was from originally, um, and I went to f- stay with her, and I took her to Marks & Spencer's to buy a whole, a couple of new outfits, um, and I came back three weeks later and she'd taken all the clothes back to Marks & Sparks and exchanged it for vodka.

And I was absolutely furious with her.

I c- I mean, red mist descended upon me.

I said all sorts of horrible things to her.
