What's the research been telling you, Chris, about what young and middle-aged men actually want and need when it comes to support?

Chris BowdenGUEST
I mean, I did my master's degree, my master's thesis on adolescent suicide, on why young people take their life.

Chris BowdenGUEST
My PhD focused more on those young men who are bereaved by suicide who have lost close friends in particular to suicide not family members but close friends and um through both of those uh studies and you know there are a lot of other research studies that have been done since then which you know um show similar things that um What do men need? I think men need a number of different things.

Chris BowdenGUEST
And by that I mean most of the support that is offered in New Zealand to survivors of suicide, whether it be suicide attempts or suicide bereavement, is a one-size-fits-all kind of approach.

Chris BowdenGUEST
And it's very much based on a research and understanding, which was predominantly done with women, to tell you the truth, about what they needed and what approaches would work best for them.
