Music video director

So yeah.
21:45
I do want to actually bring up one more point because there was a lot of yelling and screaming behind the scenes, but, but the, the, you were asking earlier about like how, you know, how, how was this concept pitched and, you know, and then I was lucky that Dan was the one who I had to pitch it to.
22:03
That part was easy, but, in order to get this, to get the record label to green light it, I wrote in the treatment because the song was just scorching up the charts.
22:15
They said, I was like the fifth person or sixth person to write a, write a music video treatment for it.
22:21
And they were already like hoping they had somebody to do it.
22:26
And they said, the only thing that matters is that we have something that we can put on to, that we can take to MTV and, in 11 days i think it was 11 days or nine days something like that and so the very first line of the treatment in bold type was um this video will be delivered in five days i was like just putting it out there at the very beginning because there were single takes.
22:55
So there wasn't any editing.

Mm

... resonates with you.

And Overprotected was a really interesting video because up to that point I'd done a couple hundred music videos that, um, all were based ar- around a concept that I wrote.
7:27
So the process for a music video at that time, I think it might be a little different now, slightly, was that it was really, uh, incumbent upon the director to come up with a concept and really shape the way in which a video would look, and more so then than it is now, because now I think it's much more about marketing and, you know, people have preconceived notions of exactly what to do with an artist, and artists are so much more involved.
7:50
But at that time it was really about the director era, you know, and you found...
7:55
I was at a company where, like, the greatest directors of that time were, and they were the authors of that, of that era really, you know? And the artist would sit there in awe, like, reading their con- the different treatments of, like, the different things that, you know, directors would come up with, you know, for them.
8:15
This was an interesting scenario in the sense that Britney already had a treatment that was fully realized from top to bottom.
