Okay
6:50
... apparent- apparently I was doing okay.
6:52
And it just became a great launching pad.
6:55
And then I, after years in the headquarters, like fi- I guess I was in the headquarters three and a half years, I could see this bureaucracy.
7:03
We'd just built the Sears Tower, and it was all about the tower, it wasn't about the customer.
7:08
So I left, did a couple other entrepreneurial things, and then I found Vistage.
7:14
And Vistage, I would sit with people making hundreds of millions of dollars, and I was really more interested in helping them than I was being jealous.

7 MINS LATER

14:13
Yes, sir.
15:57
How do you define responsible citizenship in everyday terms?
16:03
The thing that I think you have to be willing to do, first of all, as a responsible citizen, is be willing to defend the country and law and order.
16:14
Without law and order, It's chaos.
16:16
And anything else I would say after that is irrelevant.
16:21
The second thing in terms of responsibility, citizenship, is to vote.
16:28
And voting not just by who Uncle Harry says who to vote for, but by doing your own research and critical thinking.
16:37
When you see something on the news from one outlet, look at another outlet and see if they're saying the same thing.

We elected these people.
5:44
He took a stand for what he knew was right, even at the cost of everything.
5:50
Great.
5:51
All right.
5:53
So it turns out he got elected to the school board two years later unanimously.
6:01
But he vacated the seat because he had been recruited by Ambassador Kemper of Kemper Insurance to run the Kemper Foundation, which was just a wonderful job for him.
6:15
So two weeks before my senior year, as I was getting ready to start football practice, he said, we're moving to Chicago.
6:22
And being from California, I said, where's that? Anything east of the California border was a different world.

17 MINS LATER

23:42
And what was it that inspired you to found unity in service and really decide to focus your time, your energy, your effort and your heart into this volunteerism and civic engagement?
2:25
What did you see in the country that made you say that this is broken and we need something drastic?
2:31
Well, I've been an observer of behavior since I got out of college.
2:35
Even in college.
2:36
I just always enjoy watching and listening and observing.
2:39
And there's just been this deterioration of trust and this getting into silos.
2:44
And when COVID came, it got worse, and my wife and I had a boat, and I said...
2:50
She stopped working.
6:27
No, they don't.
