It's, it has been just phenomenal weather this week.

This is kind of the time where the meteorologist kind of opens up that tip jar and's like, "He will take tips for the nice weather every once in a while," 'cause he tend to get beat up a little bit in the summer and the winter.

You know, we're in one of the shoulder seasons now, full-blown fall as we saw the autumnal equinox here in the last week, and now our astronomy aligns with meteorology now, and we are fully in full-fledged pumpkin spice season.

And the temperatures have been awesome.

We've had highs in the mid-70s.

Overnight lows, they've gotten down into 50, which is really the first time since June we've seen lows get into the 50s, but it ...

Are we going to continue to see this enjoyable weather?

Chip, this past week, I feel like the weather's been pretty nice where I'm located, and has that been seen across the whole state?

It's been just phenomenal weather this week.

You know, we're on one of the shoulder seasons now, full-blown fall as we saw the autumnal equinox here in the last week.

and now our astronomy aligns with meteorology now and we are fully in full-fledged pumpkin spice season and the temperatures have been awesome we've had highs in the mid 70s overnight lows it got down into 50 which is really the first time since june we've seen lows get into the 50s but it We're still running above average when you look at temperatures as a whole just because the overnight lows, despite just now getting into the 50s, they should be in the mid to even low 50s in some places for overnight lows.

So we've been warmer than normal, but the afternoon temperatures have definitely been a couple degrees cooler than normal.

We should see highs in the upper 70s to mid-70s.

Are we going to continue to see this enjoyable weather?

Chip, when we look at this past week, what weather did we see?

We've seen a lot of weather, a lot of very, very warm, hot, muggy weather.

We had hundreds and 90s almost every day across the whole state.

The one exception being Tuesday night until Wednesday did have a cold front that pushed into the area.

It brought some reprieve, at least the northern folks reported.

They saw temperatures down to 63 degrees, but it was so super brief.

As moisture got pushed back over that front, and we started getting showers and storms, and actually the temperature actually went up.

Are we going to continue to see this hot weather as we look ahead, or are we going to cool down and continue with moisture?

Chip, when we look at this past week, what weather did we see?

We've seen a lot of weather, a lot of very, very warm, hot, muggy weather.

We had hundreds and 90s almost every day across the whole state.

The one exception being Tuesday night until Wednesday did have a cold front that pushed into the area.

It brought some reprieve, at least the northern folks reported.

They saw temperatures down to 63 degrees, but it was so super brief.

As moisture got pushed back over that front, and we started getting showers and storms, and actually the temperature actually went up.

Are we going to continue to see this hot weather as we look ahead, or are we going to cool down and continue with moisture?

Chip, as we do look at the weather for this past week, has most of Kansas finally seen a break in the hot temperatures?

Yeah, finally a day of relief.

And it came a little bit later for folks in South Central and Southeast Kansas where they had one more day of 100 degree heat before they finally saw big time relief.

But some impressive temperatures nonetheless over the course of the last two weeks.

Really got to go all the way back to about the the 23rd, 25th of August until we had temperatures more moderated.

We had easily daily values in the hundreds, um, low hundreds getting up to about 104, even 105.

Not a lot of records were broken, at least with the high temperatures.

If people are keeping a close eye on the drought monitor, is there something important to keep in mind when it comes to the timeline of when that monitor is recorded and when we got the rain?

Chip, as we do look at the weather for this past week, has most of Kansas finally seen a break in the hot temperatures?

Yeah, finally a day of relief.

And it came a little bit later for folks in South Central and Southeast Kansas where they had one more day of 100 degree heat before they finally saw big time relief.

But some impressive temperatures nonetheless over the course of the last two weeks.

So how long do you feel like we're going to stay in this heat wave?

Oh, that's the million-dollar question.

You know, when we look at this high pressure, it's really, really pronounced.

We continue to see just really hit and miss showers and storms when we look at just the summary for the week.

Again, western Kansas along the Colorado border has been favored with some weak monsoonal storms that keep pushing into the far western edge of state.

We're talking only a county or two eastward into Kansas.

Now we've got a big area that's missed a lot of that moisture previously and still continues in portions of southwest, south central Kansas.

But then there's also a corridor of precipitation to clip the north central and then the northeast obviously continues to be favored for precipitation.

When we look at the forecast, are you expecting us to continue to see drier conditions?

Chip, when we look at this past week of weather, have we really seen very much variability?

Um, and so with that we've had fluctuations of 100-degree heat in the south central, southwest part of the state, especially when it pushes northward, and it's got kind of like a stall front basically on the northern edge of it.

So as that, as that ridge expands, it moves that front northward and we see those warmer temperatures creep north into the state.

And then we get a, a bigger push and it kind of turns that stationary front into a weak cold front and that pushes it southward.

With our recent large mixture of different weather we saw, are we going to continue to see that in the future weeks?

Chip, as we look at this past week of weather, what have we been seeing?

We've seen the high pressure that's been to our south kind of flex a little bit.

Uh, we saw it start to expand northward again earlier this week.

It had by midweek kind of shrunk down and went back southward.

Um, and so with that we've had fluctuations of 100-degree heat in the south central, southwest part of the state, especially when it pushes northward.

And it's got a kind of like a stalled front basically on the northern edge of it.

You know, we've been in the stretch now about six, seven days of 100 degree heat or more for portions of southwest or western and, and central Kansas really.

The highest temperature we measured so far, at least in the Mesonet, was 113 in Lincoln County at our Denmark Mesonet.

That's absurd, um, even for, for Kansas standards.

That's, that's a record temperature for that day at that location.

Most of our records this time of year are in the 100 and teens.

Are we going to be getting rid of this hot and dry weather anytime soon or at least see some relief?

We have been.

This week's been, especially last weekend, was a great break in the warmer than normal temperatures we've seen across the state.

When we got down into the upper 50s in northwest Kansas, last time we had temperatures that cool, we're looking back into mid-June.

So when we look at just average temperatures at the time of year, anywhere around that 90 degree mark for highs, a little bit warmer as you get to the southwest.

And then for overnight lows, we should be down to about that 70 degree mark.

In the last week, we see the gradual transition of cooling cooler temperatures as we are past the summer kind of apex of climatological warmest time of the year.

And how hot are we looking to get as we do look ahead in our forecast?

Chip, as we look at this past week of weather, has most of Kansas been feeling some cooler temperatures?

We have been.

This week's been, especially last weekend, was a great break in the warmer than normal temperatures we've seen across the state.

When we got down into the upper 50s in northwest Kansas, last time we had temperatures that cool, we're looking back into mid-June.

So when we look at just average temperatures at the time of year, anywhere around that 90 degree mark for highs, a little bit warmer as you get to the southwest.

And then for overnight lows, we should be down to about that 70 degree mark.

In the last week, we see the gradual transition of cooling cooler temperatures as we are past the summer kind of apex of climatological warmest time of the year.

And how hot are we looking to get as we do look ahead in our forecast?

When we take a further look into August, what do you expect as we, I feel like, kind of round out summer?

Yeah.

And, and we, we really have to keep eyes on the tropical activity.

Right now we've got, uh, Guinevere, which is the hurricane right now in the East Pacific.

Uh, there's another hurricane in the West Pacific called Dolph that has been a Cat Five, really impressive.

But those tropics are gonna really dominate our weather pattern.

And because, uh, like Guinevere off the East Pacific, it's kinda followed the same track as Foso did.

Where are we at with all that?

When we take a further look into August, what do you expect as we, I feel like, kind of round out summer?

Yeah, and we really have to keep eyes on the tropical activity.

Right now, we've got Guinevere, which is the hurricane right now in the East Pacific.

There's another hurricane in the West Pacific called Dolph that has been a Cat 5.

Really impressive.

But those tropics are going to really dominate our weather pattern.

And because... like whenever you're off the East Pacific, it's kind of follow the same track as Faso did, and I can't remember the name of the storm before that.

Where are we at with all that?

Chip, as we look at the weather for this past week, I feel like we first need to make mention of the hot weather we saw in Kansas.

Yeah, it got warm this weekend.

For folks in southwest Kansas, it was warmer earlier than folks in eastern Kansas, but a lot of 100-degree readings.

Most of the state got close to 100.

And we look at southwest Kansas especially where we have moderate severe drought still persisting, basically from Barber County north and east all the way up to Sherman County.

We're the worst drought-conditioned it right now.

Those folks really got into the oven with heat over the weekend.

Starting the week with hot weather, having some precipitation, can we be expecting to return to hot weather?

Chip, as we look at the weather for this past week, I feel like we first need to make mention of the hot weather we saw in Kansas.

Yeah, it got warm this weekend.

For folks in southwest Kansas, it was warmer earlier than folks in eastern Kansas, but a lot of 100-degree readings.

And we look at southwest Kansas especially where we have moderate severe drought still persisting, basically from Barber County north and east all the way up to Sherman County.

Starting the week with hot weather, having some precipitation, can we be expecting to return to hot weather?

Are we going to see any precipitation as we look forward?

Yeah, so like I mentioned, it's been pretty dry over the last week, and really only isolated areas of the southern Flint Hills and, and I guess the Flint Hills in general got some spotty showers and thunderstorms that, uh, really, unless you got lucky and were under one of those, you didn't get much.

We're kind of stuck.

We're stuck under this, this ridge of high pressure, the highs over the central plains, and, and it's taking flow basically from the Rocky Mountains north into southern Canada, then east through the Great Lakes, and then south to the Gulf, and then back west up into the Rocky, northwest into the Rockies.

So it's kind of spinning around clockwise around us, but we're right in the middle, and so that means we really don't have a lot of weather changes expected through the course of the next week.

We're gonna keep temperatures warm, you know, around seasonal, and then we're gonna climb to above normal by the end of the weekend, potentially hundreds of turn.

Then we get a push of moisture that we're watching by maybe mid next week that, uh, is gonna wrap, basically wrap clockwise around that low and come out of the Rockies, uh, which this moisture actually originated, um, in the Pacific Ocean where we had a Ida, which is a, a hurricane right now, and that moisture gonna wrap over the Northern Rockies and into the, the southern plains.

Any good news for farmers looking up ahead?

Are we going to see any precipitation as we look forward?

Yeah, so like I mentioned, it's been pretty dry over the last week, and really only isolated areas of the southern Flint Hills and, and I guess the Flint Hills in general got some spotty showers and thunderstorms that, uh, really, unless you got lucky and were under one of those, you didn't get much.

We're kinda stuck.

We're stuck under this, this ridge of high pressure, the highs over the central plains, and, and it's taking flow basically from the Rocky Mountains north into southern Canada, then east through the Great Lakes, and then, and then south to the Gulf, and then back west up into the Rocky, northwest into the Rockies.

So it's kinda spinning arou- clockwise around us, but we're right in the middle, and so that means we really don't have a lot of weather changes expected through the course of the next week.

We're gonna keep temperatures warm, you know, around seasonal, and then we're gonna climb to above normal by the end of the weekend, potentially 100 to turn.

Chip, I feel like Kansas has seen a lot of rain, and is that the case for everywhere in Kansas?

Yeah, you know, the folks that have seen rain over the course of the last week, it's really rained.

And for the most part, pretty much everyone's got in on the heavier rains.

We had We've had some impressive totals, the highest amounts just for the last seven days as we record this.

There's more rain falling right now in the state, so it's not going to capture it all.

But as much as over 10 inches of rain in south central and really that whole southern corridor really got hit, but also the northwest got in a lot of moisture with.

up to three to six inches of rain in places.

As we have also seen cooler temperatures with that, are we going to continue to see cooler temperatures?
