I'm so curious, as somebody who's been telling stories about climate for the last 30 years, like what has that journey been like? What keeps you going, and like what inspires you to keep innovating throughout those decades? Can you give us a little bit of the like how you got here?
6:51
Oh my gosh.
6:52
Um, on the climate side, I had a peculiar childhood.
6:57
I had these two obsessions.
6:58
One was around journalism and the other was around the environment and climate change.
7:05
One of my first babysitters is a well-known environmental climate writer named Bill McKibben.
7:10
Um, he, so he, I think around four or five, he was my babysitter when I was four or five.

[chuckles]

And maybe you could each give a bit more context as to your background and your journey into working with XR.
1:32
I am the founder also of the climate news organization, Grist, grist.org, which I founded in 1999.
1:40
And, you know, on the surface, it might seem like a big leap from climate journalism to immersive media, but to me, the through line is pretty direct, it's pretty clear.
1:51
So like broadly, I've spent about three decades thinking about how we communicate urgent issues in ways that really reach people, that genuinely reach people.
2:00
And one of the hardest things about climate communications is that people can understand something intellectually, but still feel pretty distant from it emotionally.
2:09
I had my first experience with Immersa Media, one of the early Oculus headsets, maybe in 2014 or 2015.
2:17
And it felt like a curiosity to me at that time.
5:09
We're going to be diving into the open call today, but I just want to get a table set as to what's been going on with the GOG over the last number of years.
