Chidi Ashley

16:51
It's holding us hostage.
16:53
When you're doing that and when you're shrinking yourself, you're not allowing yourself to tap into potential opportunities.
16:59
They are winning, right? So if you look at the world today, why are all these billionaires online all of a sudden? They're showing us their lives.
17:07
They're on podcasts.
17:08
They're out and about.
17:09
Why is it? It's because that's the new currency, visibility, right? And they go where the money is.
17:14
So you don't have to do too much.

22:52
So how have you managed to build the life that you get to live at home off cameras as part of your lifestyle? Like how how does that operate in tandem with the strategy for building reputation, for building business? How have you cultivated that space? And also, how do you protect that space?
AtoHOST
42:41
How did you build that in your business model?
42:43
Yeah.
42:44
I mean, honestly, I'll tell you this.
42:46
I would say that the kind of customers that we have, you know, again, women that are stressed out, that, you know, are working these jobs and they want a space to unwind and connect.
43:00
And I also think, you know, as you get older, it gets harder to make friends and network.
43:04
And, you know, you're kind of in that same bubble.
43:07
And so, you I can't say it was all me.

What has building physical assets that take years to pay off taught you about patience, delayed gratification and, you know, building wealth slowly?
16:05
So I want to take it all the way back and ask you, in terms of how you cultivated this risk-taking capability and how you got to a place where you started to take risks based on some of the things that you love, like travel and hospitality, how did that start for you? What was the spark before Lux Tribes? How did we get to the Chidi Ashley that is now comfortable with taking risks?
16:29
Yeah, I mean, that's a good one.
16:31
I think looking back...
16:34
the confidence really came in university so i studied at nyu in new york and you know new york is the place of you know speak up strike a conversation networking so that really really impacted me and just pushed me completely out of my comfort zone i remember My first year in uni coming, because I graduated in, so I did my last two years of high school in Nigeria.
17:05
And you know the education system and the way Nigeria is set up, you don't really challenge your teachers.
17:11
You don't really, it's kind of speak when you're spoken to environment.
17:16
And then New York is the complete opposite.
21:15
every girl's dream and then you're you've got a great corporate job right and what makes you then say okay this great corporate job in a great city i'm moving to bali
8:28
I mean,
8:29
does anything ever go according to plan? Honestly, especially when you're a business owner, you know, I feel like you get, you're moved in different directions.
8:38
And, you know, the strategy sometimes changes, but the vision has always been the same, right? Yeah.
8:44
You have a clear vision for what you want your life to be and what you want your life to look like.
8:50
And there are different paths that you go on, but ultimately you're still working towards that one end goal.
8:55
And that's how it's always been for me.
8:57
And what's the end goal? goal for me is to build generational wealth and to do it with patience, right? To build something that actually lasts.

27:07
But you don't come from a hotelier background, do you? So how do you know even where to start when you enter this whole new industry that you don't know about?
26:43
Any things that potentially went wrong or any things that went really, really right or any notable moments?
26:49
There's a few, man.
26:49
I mean, when you're building in travel, it's so unpredictable because people see these beautiful photos and videos and all of that.
26:58
And that's the brand.
26:59
That's the polish.
27:00
But behind the scenes is you're liable for people.
27:03
You're liable for people's lives when they travel and you're liable for anything that can go wrong.

18 MINS LATER

45:16
Was the hotel self-funded?
