Cheryl BirkerGUEST
So we, our seed collection originated just to supply the living collection here at the garden, and that's, I think, where a lot of gardens store seeds, the purpose of storing seeds.

Cheryl BirkerGUEST
But we really want to use our collection to conserve California plants, and l- luckily, we are not alone in this endeavor, right? California is amazingly biodiverse, right? We're a biodiversity hotspot.

Cheryl BirkerGUEST
We have s- over 7,000 native plants, and like a third of those are rare and threatened.

Cheryl BirkerGUEST
And so luckily, we're not alone in these efforts to seed bank the rare plants of California.

Cheryl BirkerGUEST
So we came together back in 2014 with these other organizations in California, like California Native Plant Society, Santa Barbara Botanic Garden, San Diego Zoo, UC Davis, UC Berkeley, UC Santa Cruz.

Like, is there a situation where, where you wouldn't wanna remove the chaff or the fruit from the seed to be able to store it? Or, or, I mean, that might make it rot, but are there situations where you could see that being helpful?
