Can you give us a little quickie primer? The Gullah community,
8:34
first of all, it's a set of islands that make up the Gullah Geechee Corridor, as a lot of people would call it.
8:42
Those islands stretch off of the southeastern coast of the United States.
8:47
around the Wilmington, North Carolina area.
8:50
There's Cape Fear up there, and it goes down the coast of North Carolina, down the coast of South Carolina, down the coast of Georgia, and to the top of Florida, ending right around St. Augustine, which is just south of Jacksonville.
9:08
Now, on those islands for many, many, many years, and this goes back to, you know, you can trace it all the way back to the late 1700s, 1800s and stuff, were where former Western Africans lived.
9:24
They were formerly enslaved Africans.
