How did you manage to design a contagion so much like COVID before it was a real thing in your books?
16:50
Well, so the first book of the Bound to Survive series called The Unraveling is it came out before COVID came out.
16:59
And what I wanted to do was create the series about everyday people that got together and had to survive some sort of a thing.
17:09
And I decided to call it The Unraveling for the fabric of society kind of thing.
17:14
And I'm thinking, well, how can I do that? that would that would be believable but can get to the point and be be more realistic like some almost where you feel like okay matt damon's gonna come running out and you know sign up for the movie like in contagion uh so what i did is i researched a lot of influenza i took a lot of my experience dealing with emergency management and mass prophylaxis and all of the you know the the different things that they prepare for at the FEMA and Homeland security level and said, okay, what is it they're afraid of? And I said, okay, now let me dig into that.
17:51
And I came up with a version of something that was, as dangerous as the avian flu, as contagious as Ebola, maybe even more so.
18:03
But the problem with Ebola was is that it's a 21-day incubation period.

25 MINS LATER

What do you think about that, Charlie?
