Can you think of any specific cases or patients when the collaboration between radiation and medical oncology really impacted the patient outcome?
6:54
The broadest indication and where I think survival can be impacted with that collaboration or lack of collaboration is our extensive stage patients.
7:03
I think we have pretty clear guidelines that chemo and radiation should be done together for limited stage patients and that radiation should start either with cycle one or cycle two of chemotherapy.
7:14
So it's pretty programmatic that you'd have to get integrated very quickly for those patients.
7:19
For the extensive stage patients, though, surgery generally doesn't have a role and radiation usually doesn't have a role up front either.
7:26
So those patients are going right to medical oncology for chemotherapy, immunotherapy, or more commonly, chemoimmunotherapy.
7:37
But we know that doing consolidated radiation therapy to the chest can improve outcomes for many patients.

What do we need to keep in mind when we're treating these patients?
