... and how, how this project originally started?
1:08
Sure, man.
1:08
So from the beginning, I've always been interested in, you know, math and science.
1:12
So I, I went to a tech school in New York where I'm from, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and in our final semester over at RPI, we had a capstone project, which is basically, you know, the school reaches out to companies and then, you know, your team goes and does something for a company.
1:28
Now my team, great team, I, I had such a good time.
1:31
We were placed with, uh, Chris Hewison from, uh, Hewison Aviation.
1:35
He's a, he's a flight instructor.

So do you need, do you need to have some sort of a setup at home, uh, to learn with it, or do you just con- control it with your, uh, mouse and keyboard? How-- Like could you explain just a little bit how, how does, how does it look?
14:12
This is physicist Charles Clarke, and he's a big fan of public key encryption.
14:17
I think Amazon had something like 8 billion transactions carried out last year.
14:23
There's no instance reported in which information sent between Amazon and its customers has been effectively listened to by a third party.
14:34
That type of purloining never happens in the modern world.
14:51
Email had only recently become a thing when Shor's algorithm came out, so Charles was one of the few people who got polynomial time algorithms for prime factorization dropped in his inbox, and he watched as, slowly, his colleagues noticed how big a deal Shor's algorithm and its ability to find the factors of large numbers would be.
15:14
You know, if you wanna [laughs] you wanna say, "Okay, what does number theory have to do with anything real?" I'll just say all of electronic commerce, you know, all of internet security is based on number theory.
3:56
Um, but l- just backing up to that 2016 plan, has, has anything changed since then? Are you still thinking in terms of a flat tax, about 36%, a balanced US budget, shrunken, shrunken government, 'cause we don't need all those agencies and handouts? Um, has any of that changed?
4:12
Well, to go back, 2016, Andrew Yang was running for president, and so that's...
4:19
And part of his platform was a basic income.
4:22
I think it was $1,000 a month, uh, for every, uh, adult.
4:28
And so that's why basic income was in the news again.
4:32
And what I explained was I had done a costing for a basic income, uh, maybe 10 years before that, and it came to about a, a flat tax of about 36%.
4:46
That was just costing it out to give an idea.

... was there pushback back in the day on these sorts of things?
