But he was working with a rare ore sample in 1978 that was loaded with a very odd combination of platinum group metals, and he was using the, the collection plates so that he didn't lose these metals out the chimney.

So when you're refining ore, you can actually crack precious metals and they'll go-- they'll escape out the chimney and you never know you got them.

So he was taking the flue gases, running them through a water bath, and in that bath there were DC charged plates that were collecting these, these metals.

And when they built up to a certain degree, he noticed these bubbles forming in the water.
