you reckon you needed a bit of that guiding to saturday
4:59
So everyone who knows me and about me, even my mum sat here now, she was like, she's glad it happened because it was maybe a bit too friendly and maybe had a bit too much respect for us.
5:10
So I think what Michaela may have done, it was not for her best interest.
5:17
I think she played into my hands because it really lit a fire in me where maybe it was too friendly before.
5:23
I respected her so much and I had nothing but good things to say about her, but It just took a massive U-turn.
5:29
So it probably was the best thing that happened for me to be like, I really am going to have to pinch her head in now.
5:39
That's good.
7:41
So what's happening with the rematch? Is there going to be a rematch?
25:41
and at the time you'd been in the wilderness for a long time you were at a different weight but this was your vision this was your talk so about that you've made this fight happen but the other part of it is again in a private conversation I'm not giving away much and I don't want to talk too much about but in negotiations and everything else you stand on your pride and you stand on your on your morals and you stand on what you believe in so you've made a big compromise to make this fight happen and I don't want people to think that there was any bitching or any underhandedness or anything else but a big part of your consideration for making this fight having manifested it was that it wasn't going to be a three minute round people have said in the past that you're not willing to do this you're not willing to do that well i'm here to say tonight and today and this week to say that this is what's happened and that's how it's happened so talk to us about that whole process as much as you can we don't want to cause any more problems for jake or nikki so i'm definitely not
26:31
so obviously like i really wanted to continue three minute rounds like i really really did want to but I also, like, you think about how I literally handed back a world title.
26:44
Like, I got emailed a world title.
26:46
Then I handed it back.
26:48
I had all my visa problems getting to New York the last time.
26:53
And I got offered this Michaela Mayer fight.
26:55
And there was a few little situations.

7 MINS LATER

34:04
Talk to us how that helps and how that makes you, when you get the cold and halfway through camp and you're a little bit under the weather and you're feeling grumpy and sorry for yourself, it's been a game changer for you at times, hasn't it?
54:05
Do you want to tell me a little bit about that?
54:08
Yeah.
54:08
Um, my team wasn't the most pleased with my decision, but also supported my decision because I just think for women's boxing to go further, we should be doing three-minute rounds like the men do.
54:21
So for people that don't, don't know, amateur female boxers do three-minute rounds in amateurs, just like the men.
54:27
But when you go into professional boxing, women only do two-minute rounds because they say that it's not safe for women, and basically women don't have the strength to do the extra minute, where I think that's wrong.
54:40
And I think for women's boxing to get the respect it deserves and to move forward, um- We should be doing what the guys are doing, and that way we can really ask for equality and equal pay.
54:52
But if we are doing less work, and we're doing one minute less each round, w- I don't think we can argue that.
58:14
Um, how do you balance that risk and the love of competing? Um, do you think you would ever stop if, for example, they were saying, "Actually, you know, you've got a few too m- many knocks"?
37:56
you more at peace now?
37:58
Much more at peace.
37:59
I'm in a good place.
38:00
Like you really do have to sometimes have them hard times to come out in a better place.
38:05
And I've had them like, now I'm just kind of like, I just, I care, but don't care anymore.
38:11
Do you know what I mean? Like, I'm just like, whatever.
38:13
Yeah, just like, I'm just like, whatever.
38:22
You think, you know what? That's what you've worked all those grotty years for.
8:08
Completely different weight, completely different style, but how tough is it gonna be compared to those two fights?
8:14
Oh, I think it's gonna be a real tough fight, but I think Mikaela's good.
8:17
I think she's improved.
8:18
But again, Katie Taylor's completely different fi- fighter, completely different style.
8:24
Um, but again, it's gonna be a tough, tough fight, but styles make fights, doesn't it? No, you're laughing at me, and it's making me laugh.
8:31
[laughs]
11:16
If this alliance had come around six months earlier, do you think you could've been the Katie Taylor opponent?
11:22
No, I don't think so.
27:37
Let's flip over to Team UK and hear from Chantal Cameron.
27:40
I like Maya.
27:40
I think she's great.
27:41
I think she's a great fighter, a great person, and she's good for women's boxing.
27:44
So I'm not going to be fake and try to say, like, I don't like her, I want to punch her in, all that.
27:49
On the fight night, we're going to do that.
27:51
We're both very experienced.
28:53
we feel that on sky sports women's boxing has been on a crest of a wave for a long time that only happens when two great fighters are prepared to risk it all against each other so from our point of view it's congratulations and thank you to the two of you that should mean that it's a good fight as well would you agree
