What does it mean to be working with the musicians as you think about the next individual to lead the BSO musically?

So I think there's the artistic discussion which is creating a shared vision artistically for the institution is one thing.

But then there's the process and articulating a process that will ensure that the next music director is going to be someone who is widely respected by both our internal constituencies and the communities that we serve.

So the contract outlines a new music director search committee with half of the members of that committee, the players, and half of the members are from management and the board.

But, you know, really importantly, we created something called a super majority.

And that means that that we cannot recommend this committee will not recommend to the board someone for consideration who doesn't have a majority of the players.

And so, again, it is all of these things that codifies practice.
