So our emergency effort at LarryElder.com is really personal to him.
16:35
Over 18,000 people that have lost their houses.
16:38
And as you know, the economic conditions in Venezuela are not very good.
16:42
They were not good before the disaster.
16:44
So this has made things worse.
16:46
What Food for the Poor is doing is focusing on the first phase of the response, which is the humanitarian response.
16:52
We're sending container loads of hygiene kits, food and medicine and other items.

Is it harder to get, uh, roadways, electricity? Uh, what challenges are you facing getting food to these people physically?
2:01
Well, the, the, the good thing is that when we go into a country like Venezuela, which is a new country, uh, for us, we establish partnerships from within the country.
2:12
So we've been able to establish strong partnerships within Venezuela, five, uh, partners that are able to receive the aid.
2:20
Uh, because the main issue was clearing customs.
2:23
So we were able to do, to establish a channel to clear customs, and now our partners are able to pick up at a warehouse in near Caracas to go and distribute throughout the different areas.
2:34
So it, yes, access, it- roadways are, some of them are blocked, but, uh, you know, we have teams on the ground that are able to achieve what we need th- them to do.
2:45
At this point, we're assessing phase two of the response, which normally includes, uh, water access projects and potentially housing.
3:50
How can we help?
1:05
What are you hearing about the situation on the ground there?
1:09
Thank you, Ryan.
1:09
So as you know, it's been over 4,500 people that they have been reportedly dead.
1:15
And this number is rising as we speak.
1:18
More than 18,000 people that have been left without homes.
1:23
This place families are sheltering in schools, parks, classes, sidewalks and other public spaces.
1:30
And these figures are changing as we speak.
3:16
If they want to assist Food for the Poor, what exactly can they do for you, and how should they go about providing that help?

3:53
Mm-hmm.
3:53
But yes, I did receive that call.
3:56
It was scary.
3:57
They were in shock.
3:59
He was in shock.
4:00
And he had to stay that night in the streets until about one or two in the morning because there were aftershocks that were being felt.
4:09
In Caracas, of course, he was disconnected from the news.
