It's hard to know where to start and I'll try not to go on too long, but I think the easiest way to think about this is that plastic is toxic across its entire life cycle.

So from fossil fuel extraction and cracking that fuel to make the polymers, and then all the chemical additives that are used to give plastics different kinds of properties like hardness or flexibility or durability or not breaking down with UV exposure in the sun, et cetera.

And then in their use, all these additional chemicals leak out or leach out into our food and beverages and into our bodies.

And over time, as they're used and disposed of, plastics are going to break down into smaller and smaller fragments.

They do not decompose.
