So I'm going to hand now to Cathy, who is going to give us a short presentation just covering a bit of an understanding about what quantum is and also a bit of an understanding about what it's being used for and where it might go from here.

Okay, that's fantastic.

And thanks, Rachel.

Look, I'm going to go through some slides.

And starting off with just two weeks ago, the Deputy Prime Minister was at the Defence Conference in Adelaide, and he said quantum.

And the reason why quantum is important is it's going to be part of the new defence strategy.

And if you go back a bit further on to the end of last year, Michelle Bullock, who is the Reserve Bank Governor, talked about scary quantum computing as being a security threat.

What are you up to now, and your interest in, in working as part of the Bradfield board?

Well, thanks, Corrie.

It's really good to be able to talk to you about this.

One of the things I wanted to do was see the completion of things which I was part of, uh, creating, and also seeing the need for us as a country to transition our industry.

I mean, we've been very dependent on fossil fuels as a major part of our export wealth as a country, and we know as we transition to zero emissions by 2050, that's gonna have to change.

And so while I've been in all those roles, I've really looked at how can we take our strengths of research and development, which Australia is one of the top countries in the world.

You would have seen just last week we've got so many of our universities in the top 100 rankings in the world.

Can you talk us through why this facility is important now, and what are the sort of conversations you're having with industry, and how they can use it to kind of iterate the next phase of their businesses?

They now give you English or literature or some other form of English, but it's seen as compulsory that you must do some English, but it's not compulsory to do maths, and I wonder maybe it should be.

Yeah, it's a big topic of discussion and I would love to see it talked about more.

And personally, I'd love to see everyone do a level of maths, even if it's the one which is just enough to be able to operate in society.

Because whether you take out bank loan and trying to understand the difference between, you know, sort of what you pay back through to... looking at future careers where we're going into a new era where the jobs of the future are really going to need people to have a higher level of education, which is why we're seeing encouragement of people to think about post-school training and whether it's going to be in the technical trades or something which is going through a university system.

the jobs of the future are going to be much more technically oriented.

And that's where we want our young girls to also have great careers that are well-paid too.

So finally, should the T-shirt be withdrawn from sale, the one that says, I'm too pretty to do maths?

I'd love them to go and then just run them through a screen printer and put no on it.
