But he has a far deeper involvement in this story.

One of the reasons that I selected Jared Kushner for one of the main figures in this book, he's one of the main kind of narrative elements of this, is because even though you have the Musks and the Zuckerbergs and the Bezelses, of course, with their staggering wealth, each of those figures at least has some kind of skill set you can point to, whether it's managerial, technical, programmatic, whatever it might be.
23:33
They at least have some skill set that they can bring to bear in the private sector.
23:38
Jared Kushner, for as much as I have written on him, read about him, now written a book that is in large part about him.
23:46
As far as I can tell, he has no real skills to speak of.
23:50
He simply became one of, if not the most important diplomats, and at this point now a billionaire, one of the most powerful people in the United States of America.

And just, you know, listening to that, you know, like how would you respond to that? And also, how would you respond to the argument that this specific area is more strategic than some of the other ones that you mentioned before?
5:01
Yeah, yeah, it's a great question, Jamie, because there's absolutely an argument to be made that the Arctic by and large, not just Greenland itself, but the Arctic writ large is absolutely becoming one of these emerging security fears for national security concerns for the United States, for China, for Russia, for Europe, and of course, for Canada.
5:18
And that is absolutely a reality as we see melting glaciers, melting ice and rising waters, the opening of new trade routes and the opening of accessibility in new ways, especially maritime ways for places like Russia and China.
5:29
And of course, we have seen increased cooperation between Russia and China in recent years, most especially following Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
5:37
Ukraine.
5:38
But that, again, does not mean that Greenland is going to fall right into the laps of these two powers if the U.S. doesn't do anything.
5:45
I think the thing to remember at the end of the day is Greenland is a part of Denmark, which is a treaty ally of the United States of America, of Canada.
