So what does that actually look like day to day and how do you work with it?

Carolyn GillenGUEST
So I think there's a big, big spectrum here and you can have, you know, this sort of, if you think of like a line and in the middle is sort of, neurotypical sensory processing and then you have the opposite ends of the spectrum and how the autistic nervous system can kind of fluctuate between feeling really sensitive to their environment or they might feel completely numb and shut off to their sensory environment and that can sort of look like pain perception as well.

Carolyn GillenGUEST
So some people feel pain really significantly and then other people sort of have that sort of it's switched off or they might experience, they might even break a bone or they might have a significant scrape and they don't feel anything at all.

Carolyn GillenGUEST
But I think when there's heightened sensory challenges, I think we want to look at how can we soothe the nervous system? How can we bring in certain sounds? So for some people, if they're really auditory sensitive, they might need some soothing sounds to really signal that okay, sound is comfortable and safe if I can control it.

So walk me through what a session with you might actually look like.

Carolyn GillenGUEST
So a client that's first come in, I would be interested in their sensory preferences.
