Soil, if it's not intact and functioning as an ecosystem, and when I say ecosystem, I mean its fundamental term, not the sort of corporate adoption that it's gone through recently, but that actual ecological system value.

If it's functioning, if it has fungi, if it has invertebrates, then it can cycle nutrients, it can cycle water, and that retains carbon in the soil, and it also draws it down.
