The trial had really mixed effects.

Radcliffe Hall was very influenced by sexology, which had developed in the late 19th century as a sort of medical slash scientific discipline.

And some of the early work in sexology was really judgmental and aimed really at assisting the police.

But other sexologists were much more sympathetic to the people they described.

And in fact, several of them were gay men themselves.

So these works were being written and people were becoming aware of them.
