But if you had to, in terms of priority, what would you tell people to prioritize first? Would it be fiber or protein?

Carlene StarckGUEST
So just to back up in terms of picking a side, like first of all, actually, using the word priority, a person that I follow a lot, not nutrition at all, is Alex Hormozy.

Carlene StarckGUEST
I don't know if you've heard of Alex Hormozy, but he's like big in business and everything and really, really good.

Carlene StarckGUEST
It's just stupid to make it a plural because actually priority implies that you have one thing.

Carlene StarckGUEST
But I think if I was going to pick personally, if I was going to prioritize either protein or fiber in my diet, and if I could only pick one, and I'm allowed to consume a variety of different sources, then it would be protein.

Now, for any listeners who are or may be newer to this conversation, can you briefly explain how we've traditionally thought of protein and amino acids and what this now changes now that you've investigated and created this new model?

Carlene StarckGUEST
So if we go back 60, 70 years, when protein recommendations were first established, what they did is they said, right, if we completely remove protein from a person's diet and then slowly add it back or we work out what those losses are of protein in a person that's not consuming anything, that will tell us what that person actually needs for balance.

So could you walk us through all the different ways that we have protein turnover and and losses in these essential amino acids and what are some of the major processes that are causing these protein losses so that people can understand the importance and the significance of why protein is the essential macronutrient and why we need to consume it every single day from exogenous sources.
