If somebody's planning a two-week trip down Route 66, what are two or three must-see stops that really take into account the Green Book and understanding what it was like when Route 66 during its heyday had this other side that even today not a lot of people know about?

Murray's Dude Ranch was actually one of my favorite Green Book sites.

It's a 40-acre dude ranch in Victorville, California, so pretty much right next to Route 66, right when you get into the Mojave Desert.

It was so rare because it was run by a black couple, the Murrays, and it was fabulous in the sense that there were so many celebrities that would come, but also there were just regular folks.

who were traveling Route 66, black folks generally, but it was one of the first places where black and white children swam together in that part of the country.

And it was a horse, you know, they had horses and there was people like Lena Horne, you know, would come and Pearl Bailey buys the dude ranch from the Murrays in the 50s.

And she's been reported, you know, driving her or convertible pink Cadillac on those dirt roads.
