Do you want to respond to what Lawler says about socks? That was a big issue in your district.

So just going back to the biggest difference between me and Mike Lawler.

We are about the same age, grew up like 30 miles apart.

We are fundamentally different people.

He is a lifelong political operative and politician who has found every way possible to profit off of democracy while I was defending it.

And you see that in the values he demonstrates or lack thereof where his biggest argument this cycle is about a lie.

So when we look at salt, right? The federal income tax was created in 1913.

Here is someone who's in a district that Kamala Harris won, albeit narrowly, but still going to Dallas.

So why did you think that that was g- ultimately going to be a kind of a winning pitch, and how did you pull off this primary win? Talk to us about what that phase and strategy was like.

I'm incredibly proud of what we built over the last year.

You know, we ended up winning all four counties in the district for our primary, and really, again, that was despite Republicans wanting so badly to ensure that Mike Lawler would not have to face me in November, that Republicans spent $1.5 million attacking me in the final 10 days of our Democratic primary.

And so that shows you how scared Lawler is to face me, and he should be.

You know, what we built in the primary showing that a person, the right person, can put this whole district in play, not one part of it or, or another part of it, but all four counties, corner to corner, and to unite people around a shared mission.

And I think when you talk about what does it take to flip New York 17 to beat Lawler, it's having a person that doesn't just inspire and motivate the Democratic base to turn out, we have to do that and that's huge, but also can win over people who may not share our political affiliation but share our values.

And so much of what we are talking about, it's not a Democratic or Republican vision or message, it's, it's America.

Um, how has that kind of played out on the campaign trail for you? I mean, I imagine it's, given your background, um, uh, something that you feel quite comfortable sort of talking about, but what has that looked like in practice on the campaign trail, um, and when you're trying to draw this contrast with Lawler?

Uh, w- what would be your number one strategy for flipping it in, in terms of talking to the people who traditionally may not have voted Democrat often or ever?

Yeah, and you know, coming out of the 2021 redistricting here in New York, we got today's New York 17, right? So it's northern Westchester, all of Putnam and Rockland Counties, and then southern Duchess County.

And to your point, historically, when the district was further south, it was blue.

But coming out of redistricting, it's purple.

We have a Democratic registration advantage, but it's not enough to win this district with just Democrats alone because 28% of registered voters are unaffiliated or independent.

And I, I really welcome that.

When you step inside the House chamber for the first time on January 3rd, how will you begin to tackle these critical challenges facing America today, and what might be the first piece of legislation that you would sponsor or co-sponsor?

Ms. Conley, why do you think it would be the best for affordability?

So, Brian, this is a struggle that my family goes through and has been going through for generations here.

You know, I was raised by a postal worker and a construction worker.

I've got two sisters who can't afford to move back to the district and raise their family in the communities that, you know, raised us here in the Hudson Valley.

And so when we talk about what it's going to take, we've got to first undo the harm.

And that means things like ending illegal foreign tariffs that have jacked up prices on everything from prescriptions to groceries.

That means reinstating things like the premium tax credits for the ACA and restoring funding to Medicaid.
