Leadership as a Living System

Could you just share with me how you hear that and, and, and when you talk about system, what do you mean s- living system?

Bryn EdwardsGUEST
Let me, let me give you a simple analogy, right? If, if I was to bring a bicycle in here, right, we could take the bicycle apart, right? Look at all the pieces, put the bicycle back together, and you could ride it, okay? Because it's, it's inani- it's an inanimate object, right? If I took you, if I brought you in here and brought you into all your parts and tried to put you back together again, it wouldn't work because there's more than just your parts, right? If you tried to break up all of a company and put it back together again, it wouldn't work, right? And so a living system is something that's dynamic, it's adapting, it's ever-changing, and it is an entity in and of its own right.

Bryn EdwardsGUEST
I mean, we're obviously an entity, but you know, if you and I, Michael, hang out, you know, we have a connection right now, but if you and I hang out more, we'd develop a relationship, and that relationship would be inclusive of both of us, and that would become an entity in and of its own right.

Bryn EdwardsGUEST
You know, one of the things, one of the things I have to get across to all my clients is that one of the features of being alive is that you're perpetually self-organizing, and one of the features of being dead is that that abruptly stops, right? [chuckles] So, now it's fun, but then it asks-- it poses the next question of what are you organizing around, right? Because this machine, this, this engine of self-organizing is happening all of the time.
