and doing one story was going to cut into that so i picked the two other stories that i thought would take the least amount of research on my end but really my interest was that the oakland story was going to necessitate working closely with michael ciravella who i love michael ciravella he's a great guy and collaborating him with him on the handoff between those two stories sounded like it would be a lot of fun Because they explained the concept of how his Dark Age story was going to lead into that Ill-Clan story, and it was almost going to be like the same story almost.
47:15
So I pitched for that Ill-Clan story, and then I pitched for... a jihad story because i like that was one of the first things i did is i i just pitched a bunch of jihad stories and i pitched that one specifically because i wouldn't have to pitch it from the perspective of the bounty hunters because that was when it was a team of bounty hunters and i i wanted to pitch it like a like a horror film from the perspective of the blakists and then the other one i pitched as you know i i pitched the other one as loaded for bear so that i could i could do it as a you know, just, it was this guy and nobody really knew anything about him and he was just sort of this enigma and he can go and hunt a bunch of guys who thought they were ghost bears.
47:59
And that was my initial pitch.
48:02
And it was just, it was a funny pun and that was going to be, that was going to be it.
48:07
And they picked those two pitches instead of the Ilklan one.
48:11
And I'm like, OK, now I'm in for two stories instead of one.
48:42
check team will be along shortly.

Is it the thing that you anticipate the most? Is it the thing that gets you out to Comic-Con year after year?
3:51
Yes.
3:52
I've talked about this before.
3:54
My reason for Comic-Con has changed a lot over the years.
3:59
And we'll talk about this as we get further into this conversation.
4:04
But my reason for Comic-Con at this point, at this point in our 16, 15 years of going since 2011, outside of those COVID years, is the friends, I'll say family that we've built.
4:21
over the years and being able to see them every year because we only get a chance to see them probably just once a year.

For those that want to continue to enjoy your perspective on all things geek, where can our listeners find you?
5:42
Brian, what are your thoughts on Mabel's strange predicament?
5:45
Well, I thought it was really funny that Charlie Chaplin is not in it as much as I would have expected for something that you look on the poster, right? Like now when they bill it, it's billed as a Chaplin movie and you're like...
6:06
Why is it called Mabel's Strange Predicament if it's a Chaplin movie? And he's just sort of there occasionally, and he's not the tramp we know, right? No.
6:17
He's sort of like a really lecherous guy who's trying to just... uh he's he's got wandering eyes for literally any woman walking through the lobby of this hotel that he's drinking in and mabel being in her pajamas happens to catch his eye the most uh and you know more hijinks ensue but he's just playing a variation of his vaudeville drunk um which is great like he's terrific at it but this uh like you said this is the this is the film that he in he first appeared well he first filmed his um tramp character for under mabel norman's direction so she actually directed this picture and although he appeared in another picture first just a few days before this got released first because back then it was like hey there's something going on down the street go film and see if there's any business you can do right right right And so the first official Tramp release was something else.
7:25
It was like the kid races at Venice Beach or something like that.
7:34
And so that, because it was just basically a jackass skit.
7:39
Oh, right, right.
