Bruce Buffer

American announcer

Oct 22, 2026

2:34
What was your mindset? What was Bruce like growing up as a kid in high school? How did you get started in business?
2:40
Well, you know, that's a long question.
2:44
But my dad never graduated high school.
2:47
My dad ran Fortune 500 companies here in the United States, self-taught, self-educated and had a very true entrepreneurial spirit, along with the fact that he was in the American services of U.S. Marine, both in World War Two and Korea.
3:02
and was a brig warden and a drill instructor at Camp Pendleton.
3:07
I grew up with this whole Marine attitude.
3:09
And, you know, basically, I'd walk in and say, Hi, Dad, how are you? Go, son, project your voice, shoulders back, chest out, let them know you're in the room, look them in the eye.

17:11
Thanks for joining us, Bruce.
15:41
He's got an event in mind, and I don't think it's far-fetched that this could actually happen.
15:46
I've done so many different events for most all the sports out there, NFL, hockey, basketball, UFC, beer pong, you know? It's like the things I get to do, you know, tennis and all these events that come through to me over the years.
16:01
I think the bucket list now is I've had the Super Bowl commercial.
16:05
I did a Budweiser Super Bowl commercial.
16:07
I did Super Bowl week introducing the 49ers and the Kansas City Chiefs a couple years ago in Vegas at the big event they had at Allegiant.
16:15
But I haven't been on the field for the Super Bowl yet, okay? So my bucket list, personally, is to one day in the future have the honor of being requested by the NFL to announce the opening of the Super Bowl.
16:27
How cool would that be? That would be so cool.
16:36
You usually have to go
33:46
We're just talking about the events.
33:47
It was an honor to be in the White House.
33:48
It was an incredible event.
33:50
When I hit the field at FIFA, it's the biggest sporting event in the world, watched by a billion, two and a half billion people.
33:56
It brings the world together.
33:57
It's about love, and peace, and sportsmanship.
34:00
That was a bucket list-
35:41
Like this thing
93:19
Do, do you look at the competition? Do you look at the youngsters? Do you look at who's coming up? Do you pay attention to these things?
93:26
I don't really pay attention to it unless I happen to be watching a fight and see it or somebody sends me a video of somebody.
93:32
Um, they used to always try to, you know, emulate Michael and, and I notice, and I guess flattery's the height of, uh, rather imitation's the height of flattery, and I see them trying to do some of the stuff I do 'cause I, you know, I started doing things that other announcers didn't do and it just came natural.
93:46
It's not so much purposeful as natural and organic.
93:50
Uh, here's the thing.
93:51
I wish and, and wish success to everybody who has the want and the will and the dream to grab a microphone and go and announce a fight or any other sport.
94:03
I wish them all the best.
97:17
Where is that in relation to LA?
64:20
Can you talk a little bit about your passion for poker and how you got into that?
64:24
Yeah, well, I'm a very creative, excuse me, competitive person.
64:27
I think creative too, but competitive person.
64:30
And when I was nine, my dad taught me how to play poker, how to play blackjack.
64:34
And he taught me at the horse race, he said, the only way to follow a horse with a shovel, don't bet on them.
64:39
So he was just telling me not to go make it a habit of betting at the track, which is a fun day for a day, but I'm not a race better, with respect to all the people that are, of course, because horse race is incredible.
64:50
As a matter of fact, I just agreed to announce a huge horse race coming up that I have to keep a little quiet right now.
66:42
You guys have worked together for a long time, but you guys did not grow up together, right?
68:27
Who knew what was going to become of this thing called the UFC? But when you take yourself back to that night, that weekend in Puerto Rico, what are some of the stories that come to mind?
68:36
Well, it first came about around 1990, right? I was kickboxing a lot back then.
68:43
And there was a famous director named John Milius.
68:48
I did Red Dawn, Conan the Barbarian.
68:50
He's a buddy of mine.
68:52
And he said, you got to come train with me in Torrance at a dojo.
68:56
It's jujitsu.
