And as we speak about children experiencing ACEs in the moment, preventing them, preventing adversity and building positive experiences, but what happens if a caregiver or parent has a high ACE score? How would that potentially change things for the family, or even increase risk factors for needing interventions like Safe Babies Court?
17:30
Yeah.
17:31
So the likelihood that a parent with a high ACE score has experienced negative effects from those experiences, to include challenging patterns in adulthood, is typically increased.
17:43
And in that same breath, the ACE score could strongly be a contributing factor to their now child welfare involvement, especially if the family is participating in Sa- Safe Babies Court.
17:54
So a high ACE score does indicate that there is a need for interventions, however, I think a Safe Babies Court approaches that a little differently.
18:05
Again, rather than allowing the ACE score to label the family, Safe Babies Court really looks to the family's experiences to influence what supports may need to be in place.
18:18
Rather than asking what's wrong with this family, the goal in Safe Babies Court is to shift from judgment towards a trauma-informed lens that may instead ask What has this family experienced and what do they need to heal and thrive?
