5:47
That must have felt like a lifetime when you were parked there.
5:49
there.Oh, definitely Scafe.
5:53
It was, uh, felt like an eternity.
5:54
I think that extra 35 seconds, uh, probably felt like five minutes, as it always does.
5:59
Um, I'm sure you've had plenty of those moments in your career, but, uh, I could hear what was going on and, and, you know, could, could hear the, um, you know, the rattle gun struggling, you know, to get the bolt on, so.
6:09
But, uh, you know, Tom just kept me really focused.
6:11
My engineer just kept me so focused, uh, on the gaps and, you know, just he knows exactly what mindset I get into when I, you know, get all the information that I need.
8:36
So what was that moment like for you then, Brodie, when Tom relayed that over the radio as you were coming up Mountain Straight there?
6:32
Yep
6:32
... um, yeah, those guys, uh, skipped away a bit too much when we had the slow pit stop, but, you know, the, uh, seven team was so fast and then we got track records during the race.
6:40
Fantastic.
6:40
So, you know, we did claw back the gap, um, a lot.
6:43
So, uh, very, very proud of the guys and the girls, uh, in the race team.
6:47
Did a fantastic job and, uh, to, you know, come away with that win, you know, was really deserving, um, I thought 'cause we were the best on ground all day.
8:42
And finally, do you get a chance to put the feet up? What's next?
8:46
Uh, it's actually Gold Coast for, for me next.
22:05
the, the day before, where you got pipped on the, on the line for the, for pole position, um, what was going through your mind at that stage? Did you think this could have been the one that might have been, or did you really think, "Righto, let's go"?
22:18
Yeah, you're not wrong, Eddie.
22:19
Uh, we had such a fast race car all day and, uh, you know, Todd, Todd put us in a really good, uh, spot.
22:24
Um, you know, we got the track position, got into the lead.
22:26
You know, we, we built ourselves a margin.
22:29
Um, Todd, Todd gave me the keys with a 10-second gap, and then, uh, I, I jumped in and, you know, leading up to that pit stop where we had a l- little bit of misfortune, we had a 20-second, uh, gap at, uh, one point.
22:39
So, um, yeah, we lost that gap 'cause we got stuck in the pits for just over a minute, uh, trying to do a brake change.
23:13
Did you know De Pasquale had fuel problems, or when did you know? And when he suddenly, as I said, when it sounded like he, he dropped the anchor out the back and just stopped, what, what was your reaction?
3:58
Mm.
3:58
So the team told me, um, you know, his team must have been on the radio and, and, uh, said, said, "Max fuel save," so I got relayed that same message and, you know, 10 seconds later he was, um, coughing up Mount Straight.
4:10
So, um, you know, there was a amount of emotions, um, you know, they come up on me when I passed him, and was just trying to keep all them, um, at bay for the last lap and, you know, bring it home to the checkered flag.
5:37
And finally, do you get a chance to put the feet up? What's next?
5:40
Uh, it's actually Gold Coast for, for me next.
5:42
So it's the start of our final series, and, uh, we're going in with a lot of momentum at the moment.
5:46
We've, uh, been on a bit of a roll lately and got eight, eight wins this season, which is fantastic.
5:50
So, um, Gold Coast will be a tough one, racing on the streets of, uh, the Surfers' Paradise and, and, uh, hopefully we can sort of continue our streak that we've been on lately and, and, uh, just keep, keep progressing through this final system and, you know, make it through to Adelaide to, uh, fight for a championship.
15:38
Tell us about the emotions that you had yesterday, Brodie.
15:42
I think we went through every emotion yesterday.
15:46
We had such a fast Shelby Power Racing Team Ford Mustang and ultimately we had a pretty big gap heading to the second last pit stop and we had a little bit of misfortune on the right front brake change and that put us back into fourth or fifth place and my engineer Tom Moore just kept me focused at the task at hand to claw back the gap and we got that late race safety car with Chazzy going into the fence and Yeah, that really flipped the race upside down.
16:11
So crazy, crazy finish to the race.
16:14
I don't think you could have scripted a...
19:05
Is there any love or how do we feel about the horrible situation with Anton Di Pasquale, Brodie?
19:13
Yeah, I mean, you never want to see misfortune like that on your competitors, but it's how our sport goes.
19:19
You know, you sometimes take big risks and, you know, for them, that's going to be a real tough one for them.
106:14
We'll get to the race in just a moment but just hearing back to the call of that last lap, what's the overriding emotion you feel? I'm sure in and amongst the celebrations you wouldn't have listened to it too many times but what did you feel just then when we played it back to you?
106:29
I think I'm still in a little bit of disbelief to be honest.
106:34
For what happened to us on the second last pit stop and to ultimately lose the lead which we had such a big lead at the time and and to, you know, come back and, you know, win the race in the fashion that we did, you know, it was just truly incredible.
106:48
And the mountain really chooses the winner at the end of the day.
106:51
And I think, you know, Peter was looking down on us and, you know, obviously having, you know, Dick and Julie in the garage on the weekend and to see their, you know, emotion, you know, when I took the lead after, you know, Anton, you know, ran out of fuel was, you know, really special.
107:04
A race that I'll never forget.
107:05
And, yeah, I just, I'm still in shock, to be honest.
107:28
Would you like to share any words that you had with your crew about what happened there, guys?
3:13
We'll get to the race in just a moment but just hearing back to the call of that last lap, what's the overriding emotion you feel? I'm sure in and amongst the celebrations you wouldn't have listened to it too many times but what did you feel just then when we played it back to
3:26
you? I think I'm still in a little bit of disbelief to be honest.
3:33
For what happened to us on the second last pit stop and to ultimately lose the lead which we had such a big lead at the time and And to, you know, come back and, you know, win the race in the fashion that we did, you know, it was just truly incredible.
3:46
And the mountain really chooses the winner at the end of the day.
3:50
And I think, you know, Peter was looking down on us and, you know, obviously having, you know, Dick and Julie in the garage on the weekend and to see their, you know, emotion, you know, when I took the lead after, you know, Anton, you know, ran out of fuel was, you know, really special.
4:02
A race that I'll never forget.
4:04
And, yeah, I just, I'm still in shock, to be honest.
4:27
Would you like to share any words that you had with your crew about what happened there, guys?
80:59
It looked like you had a pretty solid mindset about the confidence in your car right from the start of the race.
81:06
Yeah.
81:06
Yeah, you're 100% right.
81:07
It's such a long race.
81:08
You just gotta be in it to win it.
81:09
And, uh, it's 160- it's a 161-lap race, so Todd was just biding his time.
81:14
We didn't quite have the straight line of the Camaro, so it was quite difficult to pass.
81:53
So what's going through your mind when you're sitting there and you're counting the seconds ticking down?
53:15
What is dead set going through your head that period?
53:18
To be honest, I was going through probably every single emotion that, you know, you could probably put yourself through.
53:24
I guess I went through that race.
53:25
But, you know, we had a little bit of a misfortune on the second last pit stop, which, you know, took us out of the lead of the car race, which, you know, we had a comfortable lead at the time.
53:35
But, you know, once that safety car come out and, you know, we're able to core ourselves back into contention for the race and then to see, you know, Anton, you know, start to run out of fuel and to take the lead and, you And I was just trying to hold back, you know, all the emotions that were, I guess, running through my body at the time and just, you know, get the 17 back across the start-finish line.
54:13
Yes.
54:14
Yes.
54:14
I'm sorry about that.
3:36
It looked like you had a pretty solid mindset about the confidence in your car right from the start of the race.
3:43
Yeah.
3:44
Yeah, you're 100% right.
3:45
It's such a long race.
3:46
You just gotta be in it to win it.
3:47
And, uh, it's 160, it's a 161-lap race, so Todd was just biding his time.
3:52
We didn't quite have the straight line of the Camaros, so it was quite difficult to pass.
4:31
So what's going through your mind when you're sitting there and you're counting the seconds ticking down?
51:40
Did you have any idea what was unfolding in front of you, Brodie, with, uh, with De Pasquale and the fuel issues?
51:46
Oh, actually, I had no idea until the corner before, uh, going up Mountain Straight, and they said that the lead car, uh, may, may have some fueling issues.
51:53
And, and, uh, we just fought pretty hard after a little bit of misfortune on an earlier pit stop to, you know, get ourselves back into that, um, you know, P2 and, and, uh, back on the podium.
52:03
And, uh, his car started slowing up, you know, going up Mountain Straight.
52:06
And, you know, once we got by, I was in d- you know, disbelief, to be honest.
52:10
And, uh, the emotions that were running through my body, uh, at the time were, um, you know, were really raw and trying to keep them, um, you know, held back and, and just stay content and try, you know, just try to get the car back to the start-finish line was, um, you know, was really hard.
52:23
Now, Brodie, how would you feel about your crew if you've gone for 160 laps and then you ran out of fuel on that final lap?
52:32
Oh, it's a pretty tough thing, to be honest.
92:25
Tell us about the emotions that you had yesterday, Brodie.
92:28
Oh, I think we went through every, uh, e- every emotion yesterday.
92:32
Uh, we had such a fast Shell V-Power Racing Team Ford Mustang and, uh, yeah, ultimately we had a pretty big gap, uh, heading to the second last pit stop, and we had a little bit of misfortune on the right front, uh, brake change, and that- that put us back into fourth or fifth place and, uh, my engineer, Tom Moore, just kept me focused, uh, at the task at hand to, you know, claw back the gap.
92:51
And we got that late race safety car with, uh, Chazzy going into the fence and, you know, that- that really, um, flipped the race upside down.
92:57
So, um, crazy, crazy finish to the race.
93:00
I don't think you could've, uh, scripted, a- a, you know, better Bathurst.
95:18
Is there any love or- or how do we feel about the- the horrible situation with Anton De Pasquale, Brodie?
95:26
Yeah.

Is there any love or, or how do we feel about the, the horrible situation with Anton De Pasquale, Brodie?
1:28
Did you know what happened? Did you think, "What is going on here, I'm gonna win it?"
1:33
Oh, I truly just couldn't believe my eyes, uh, when it started.
1:37
I got a radio call right, right before I got onto Mountain Straight, which is where he started slowing, and they said that he might be, uh, out of fuel.
1:43
So yeah, just, uh, couldn't, couldn't believe it, to be honest.
1:46
We had a little bit of misfortune, um, on the second last pit stop, which, you know, ultimately took us out of the lead.
1:51
But, um-
3:26
Why were you crying? What was going through your head?
3:30
Oh, just, I was just full of emotions.
9:57
Uh, Brodie spoke about it earlier today at a media call at the end of pit lane, and here's what he had to say.
10:03
Yeah, it's obviously tough not having George here.
10:05
He's, um, you know, one of the best in the, in the, uh, industry and we've had such a great partnership together and understand each other so well.
10:11
But in, in saying that, you know, having Tom Moore here and stepping in for him, um, I've been sitting across the same desk as him for the past five years, so I think Tom knows me quite well and I'm still quite unsure exactly, um, how the crash happened.
10:22
I think Tom could have been there with a stick and shoved it in his front wheel.
10:25
So, um, yeah, time will tell, but, uh, yeah, I'm, I'm, you know, looking forward to the opportunity to work with Tommy and, uh, yeah, we've been pretty excited.
10:32
Um, George has done all the legwork coming into the weekend, and every time he's given me a race car here, it's been one of the fastest.

10 MINS LATER
