So after you signed your first publishing deal, did you find immediate success or how did it go?

No, it was, you know, that's another thing that's kind of interesting to me too about the new deals or the new, you know, younger writers and stuff.

Man, I felt like whenever I signed my first deal in 96, like I said, at Starstruck and Man, Troy, I don't – I can't remember writing – I mean, I'm sure I wrote with a few other writers maybe that had a cut or two, but, man, I never got to be in the room with Mark Sanders or somebody like that at the time that was over there that was really, you know, the A-list guys.

I mean, it just didn't happen.

We were all just kind of writing amongst ourselves, you know, with the group, you know, of writers that I knew and – But nowadays it feels like it happens faster i feel like for some writers when they get signed and then they're in the room with guys that have been doing it a lot longer that have had hits and that kind of thing i mean i i didn't find success honestly uh time my first deal 96 and the very first single i i you know i got my first uh cut in 97 with gary allen on a song that uh sean camp and win barb and i wrote together that um was on his Smoke Rings in the Dark record.

But first single I ever had was on John Michael Montgomery back in 01, I guess.

And then, of course, the first hit I had was Nothing On With The Radio with Gary in 04.
