What is it? How does that work? What's a drag mine mean for us that don't understand this stuff?
4:32
Yeah, so a drag mine, When they go after coal, you know, particularly if it's like an open pit and strip mining, they have to remove what's called overburden.
4:43
And overburden is all the dirt on top of the vein because coal is usually there as a big, thick chunk underneath.
4:48
So a drag line is basically a huge machine that has a giant bucket that will – They can kind of put out over the ground and it digs in and it pulls out, you know, sometimes as many as 50 to 100 yards of overburden and removes it.
5:06
It exposes the ore underneath.
5:09
To do this, you need chain and wire ropes, and there's all kinds of configurations.
5:15
And the chain itself gets drug through the muck and the dirt and wears out.

Is that a big part of the job and your kind of perspective on that as far as the different situations with the mines north of here, but then also just all around the state abandoned? Yeah.

Wow.
5:15
And more than 500 of those are abandoned uranium mines.
5:19
And most of those are up in the sovereign land.
5:21
Wow.
5:23
In that case, I see the mine inspector as being a leader in safety.
5:26
So I'm going to kind of move the uranium mines off to one side for this part of the conversation and talk about the other ones.
5:32
A lot of these are ones where I like to joke.

How easy is it to enforce those rules? How does that work? Sure.
