Why don't we start out, as we very often do at the very beginning, and talk about your origins in the Air Force, and how you got into the Air Force and what you did before the foreign area officer community got your interest.

Before I went to college, when I was in high school, I had an interest in joining the military, and I asked around to a large number of people what military branch I should join, and universally, everybody said I should join the Air Force.

And they were different people, primarily that had experience in the Vietnam era, whether they were in the Navy, the Marines, the Army, the Air Force.

They all said Air Force.

So I set my sights on the Air Force.

And when I was in high school, there was, there's an organization called the American Field Service, AFS, that does high school exchange, and somebody from that, from AFS came to my high school and was looking to promote and recruit people that would be interested, high school students interested in going overseas.

I went home and talked to my parents, and they did not have that much going in the way of income and things like that, but they still were very supportive.
