Brian, can you talk me through why these leavers think they should be compensated?

Well, Gloria Vale established itself 50 years ago and they built it on a model of child labour.

and you had six-year-old boys working in industry, you had women from eight, nine, ten years old working in the industrial kitchens, industrial cleaning, industrial laundries.

And that's what the court found in respect of the so far plaintiffs.

What's happened is the later inspectorate knew in 2017 that this was a child labour complaint and problem and the employment court has made two decisions the first is that they knew in 2017 so that time barred protecting these plaintiffs because it's 2023 is the time bar and the second is that when they prepared their reports their reports totally ignored child labor So when you've got a child labour complaint and you decide not to consider anybody under 18, it's sort of pretty obvious you're not going to find child labour.

And that's what happened.

So it's now left up to them.

Can you tell us a bit more about your group, 61 people named? What sort of things were they doing in Gloria Vale?

[laughs]

I'm gonna definitely let you know." But, um, w- I, I mean, I've had a client that bought a baby from us, and had it in training with us for two years, and never saw the horse.

And we would do monthly updates and be like, "Hey, this is what your horse is up to.

Hey, we wanna go to a horse show," whatever.

And that worked really well, and she was a very happy client for all of the time that she was with us.

And, and I just think it is important in the beginning.

Can you give me any more, like, detail on that, A, for our trainer friends listening who might go, "I need to do that," [laughs] and B, for clients that are maybe going like, "Oh, my gosh, I wish I had the playbook of, like, how to be in the program from day one."

What is your reaction to that news?

I've got two reactions.

The first is I do not understand how the school... which has been under the control of two convicted sex offenders for the last 50 years, has ever been allowed to pass any ERO reports or carry on.

The second is, I think we have to acknowledge that this Minister and the Ministry, I believe it's been an 18-month process, have finally taken the cudgels in their hands and finally reached the decision I think is totally right.

This school is the enabler of sex offending and it's the enabler of basically enslaving young children born in the community.

It keeps them ignorant, deliberately.

is there a what do you worry that they might just be homeschooled or something like that

I understand that they will try to homeschool, but I also understand the homeschooling is not successful in the sense that they're not getting good pass rates.
