Chris BarronHOST
So Brian, from a physio point of view, are you aware of anything that people can do to help to get a diagnosis of this condition?

Brian ForristalGUEST
So we would see plenty of people with bronchiectasis, um, and it's mainly for airway clearance techniques.

Brian ForristalGUEST
So yeah, airway clearance, uh, options available to us, uh, are different types of breathing techniques.

Brian ForristalGUEST
So w- the goal is to remove mucus from the airways to reduce the risk of infection and subsequent, uh, disease progression.

Brian ForristalGUEST
Um, so the most common technique we would teach would be the active cycle of breathing technique, or ACBT, and that's a series of deep breaths and a huffing technique to, to move the, um, secretions along.

Brian ForristalGUEST
Um, and then the next, uh, technique, uh, would commonly we would use is using, um, a PEP device, so it's a positive expiratory, uh, pressure device called a Acapella or an Aerobika, where we teach somebody to, to blow in and out, uh, through the device to, to mobilize those secretions as well.
