6:45
Could you just talk about the nuances in scoring from that aspect?
6:49
Yeah, absolutely.
6:50
So the NCAA sponsors now 39 sports.
6:55
So they added women's wrestling this year.
6:59
And, you know, if you want to talk about nuance, they split fencing into men's and women's fencing.
7:04
It used to be co-ed.
7:05
So there's now 39 sports, okay? Like you mentioned, most athletic departments are not sponsoring all 39 of these sports.

14:58
So could you just explain to maybe, you know, Texas fans, just fans in general, why the director's cup is a indicator of overall athletic department success when maybe those, you know, frontline sports don't capture a title.
2:23
Mm
2:23
...
2:23
I believe, 24th or 26th.
2:25
That earned them enough points for Texas to go up to 1291, um, in their score.
2:32
Stanford, if they were to finish second place in the track meet, um, tomorrow, the women's track meet, they could score 1289, so that puts Texas ahead.
2:42
So the only way Stanford could go ahead of Texas at this point is if their women's track were to win the track and field meet.
2:50
They only have two athletes running tomorrow.
3:20
Uh, when did you get a feel that Texas was gonna win this Directors' Cup? Was it the softball championship where they dominoed? Was it when the team made it to Omaha in baseball? What was the kind of tipping point in this race this year?
13:46
Any surprises that you're looking for here or concerned about if you're a Texas fan, like for winning five of six Directors' Cups?
13:54
Yeah, so here's what we're watching.
13:55
We, we of course have to keep our eye on Stanford.
13:58
The only sport they have active right now is women's track.
14:01
Alyssa Jones won the long jump last night.
14:04
Um, she was the favorite, um, you know, long expected to win that event.
14:08
Um, she's pretty phenomenal, so she did.
16:36
But if when Texas adds another women's sport, which I do think they will, which one would you prefer for Texas? Which one could even have the most impact? Is it gymnastics?
24:15
Where are things? that right now
24:16
yeah you know when I when it got deep enough in the season that I could start making some final predictions it's pretty much been Texas with an 80-point lead from that first prediction and I kept posting new predictions but nothing was really changing it was just consistently this 80-point lead that Texas had over Stanford and every result that happened pretty much things were just going as predicted and There were some ups and downs here and there for both Texas and Stanford, but that lead was remaining right around 80.
24:48
Men's golf was actually the only big change.
24:50
Stanford added 10 points.
24:52
Texas lost 10 points.
24:54
So then we were looking at like a 60-point lead for Texas.
24:58
And then I'm looking at it, and it's getting close, and does Texas baseball avoid a regional upset like they had last year? Does softball keep winning their 0-1 lead? in the College World Series, and then they just keep winning, keep winning, keep winning, adding those points.
26:50
still salty about those geese, by the
24:12
Um, and, and maybe even we'll talk about predictions just in a little bit, but where are things at right now?
24:16
Yeah, you know, when I, when it got deep enough in the season that I could start making some final predictions, it's pretty much been Texas with an 80-point lead from that first prediction.
24:27
And I kept posting new predictions, but nothing was really changing.
24:31
It was just consistently this 80-point lead that Texas had over Stanford.Um, and every result that happened, pretty much things were just going as predicted.
24:41
There were some ups and downs here and there for both Texas and Stanford, but that lead was remaining right around 80.
24:48
Men's golf was actually the only big change.
24:50
Stanford added 10 points, Texas lost 10 points, so then we were looking at, like, a 60-point lead for Texas.

9 MINS LATER

34:11
[laughs]
6:26
[laughs]
6:27
...
6:27
I'll do my best to put all these numbers into words, but, uh, what we're looking at here is essentially the minimum scores for Texas, what the predicted score is based on their rankings, and then what the maximum is.
6:39
Uh, the maximum's fun to talk about.
6:41
If, if Texas achieves the maximum, they're blowing away the field, so that's, that's all fine and good, but that's not really where we need to focus.
6:49
Um, the focus right now is what is the minimum score for Texas, and what's the maximum score for Stanford? And once that Texas minimum has surpassed the Stanford maximum, we know this is a done deal, right? So, um, the minimum is what they've scored already at this point.
7:06
All of these points have already been achieved.
9:14
You know, you look at this, Brett, are you predicting right now that Texas is going to beat out Stanford, or is the race too close to call for you in your opinion?
27:10
And then y- I'll let you explain the scoring proposition for those that are unaware, first of all, and then where the current things stand based on actual results so far, and then your long-term projections.
27:25
Yeah.
27:25
So, um, for those that aren't familiar, I know I've been on here multiple times, and a lot of people follow the Twitter account, but if you're not familiar with the Directors' Cup, like Bobby said, you know, it really seeks to name the best athletic department in the country, and this is top to bottom athletics.
27:41
Um, they don't really weigh any sports more heavily than others.
27:45
So, you know, football counts as much as rowing, counts as much as beach volleyball.
27:50
They're really looking at the entire breadth of the athletic department.
27:54
Um, your top 19 sports, um, get their scores counted.
31:19
So a Texas men get to a Sweet 16, what did that do points-wise in the women's going all the way to Final Four? I know there's still the possibility of the national championship out there, but for people that know ki- don't know, kind of explain since we're right in the middle of basketball that point breakdown.
